Lol so true. But still, that's pretty bad to refuse to do a Charity cd. Apparently he and to a lesser extent Kelly were against performing at World Idol.

He refused to do it after realising what a farce WI was. It wasn't WI at all, it was Judge Idol. It was poor form to refuse to do a charity CD, but I understand his disgust with the show at that point and the need to sever all ties. Basically, if you want to do something for charity, do it yourself, and don't milk the public's money any further in a shameless publicity stunt. Bet a significant portion of that 'charity CD's money would go to the WI producers too. Not feeling particularly cynical today, am I?

excuse me if you are going to quote me please don't spin it! This is my full quote: Good on Will for refusing to do a charity record, with the other 10, I don't think he'll get any critisism for that here. I don't think the other countries have to work of the stigma, quite the way Will did, with the attitude of the British media. Sounds like it was a fawnathon on Kelly Clarkson, and a slanging match, between each judge to "outputdown" each other. I thought this was going to be a light hearted affair, I don't blame Will at all for being pissed off after the show, it sounds to me that he was expecting the same. If he were to do a Charity CD it would damage the reputation he fought to gain terribly, he is now being finally seen as a credible artist, rather than a cheesey talent show winner, who's 15 minutes of fame should be up, thats the attitude of the British media, and Will is the 1st to overcome it, if he was to go back to the cheesey Pop Idol tag , again it would undo alot of his good work, if you look through the responses on the Digital Spy thread, a very cynical forum on the best of occasions!, you will see, that everyone is elated for Will to refuse to do it, and stand up for himself. I can see how you guys might take it, but you really need to know the full story to understand the reasoning!

Hes not being horrible but he has moved on. He released a single for Children in Need which is a massive charity in the UK last year.
Remember he won 2 years ago now and has worked hard to become a creditable artist, hes now seen (and I quote!) as a male Dido he doesnt want to move back from where he is now.
We will have a new Pop idol on Saturday and I am sure he/she would do it as that is the stage of the career they are at.
Will is seen as one of the nicest guys in pop and even people that dont like his music respect will as an incredibly nice man.

Will has done a lot for Charity in Britain. He put on a huge gig in Exeter for a charity close to his heart, as well as appearing at several other charity gigs.
He is far from a prima donna and one of the nicest people in the music industry. I am sure he had his reasons for not wanting to do this. One being the sham that was on Tuesday night. I was there and it was awful to listen to. In terms of the judges throwing insults to all except there own Idol with a few exceptions.

Sounds like a World Idol forum!!! It really is a disgrace to the competition to have partisan judges who are trying to make their Idol win regardless of performance through putting others down. Perhaps next year they should get some judges who are not only nicer, but who are from countries NOT represented. Or perhaps they should scrap the judges, and just have the performers talk to the hosts after they perform. So you were there? How would you rank the top three judges, in terms of how nasty they were? Sounds like Simon Cowell wasn't even the worst.

With all that being said, I think I should be judge.

excuse me if you are going to quote me please don't spin it! Oh I wasn't spinning it, was just showing that mian part of the quote so it backed up what I was saying and showed I wasn't just making it up. I posted the link for people to read the whole thing. Also he might be over the whole Idol thing and want to distance himself from it. But, it was the show that "made" him so to speak, so he really shouldn't dismiss it.

There is probably more to it than that so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
About Will distancing himself from all of this, well I say don't bite the hand that got you there in the first place. Sure it (World Idol) regrettably turned out to be a complete joke, but without Idol Will probably would not have the career that he has right now (he probably would have eventually). I do get that he probably doesn't want to have that tag anymore, but from the stuff that I have read he doesn't need to completely give a bagging, or act like he's too good for it now.
It's like those soap stars who have turned singers and then are just completely embrassed that they were ever on it even though it was really their platform.

Who can blame the guy after going through that crap from the panel of WI morons (a few). Why support a business that thrives on degrading it's people. Besides, he already does a fair bit for charity work in his own time.

ok so to compare it to say a soap star. Lets say Kylie.
Say she goes on to Neighbours for a cameo as she remembers how she became famous.
Then they say will u record a cd with the cast of neighbours for charity. Well she would think first that she does a lot of charity work but also that as an artist it would not help her and would also take up a lot of time at a time when she has just removed most of the critics and is doing very well.
That is wills position, he has been back on UK pop idol 3 times (including this Sat) so he doesnt want to forget but he has moved on. In england if u are associated with these kinda of shows the papers slate you and want you to fail, he has just overcome that so doesnt want to go backwards.
I think he is happy to do world idol as a giggle but a charity cd would mean loads of promotion when he is promoting his 2nd album
With charity there is only so much he can do and as it has already been said he does loads but I am sure he is asked constantly to do stuff and its not always possible.

Guy has a CD to promote as well as doing the Australian Idol tour, yet he was still willing to do the CD.

I really don't know anything about Will Young so I won't comment on his particular situation.......but personally I don't think that refusing to do one specific thing for charity necessarily makes you a 'bad' or uncharitable person.......there are many different ways of doing good things for people.....and a lot of them are done anonomously.
GUY will rock the world in world idol!
