Excellent review, cherub! I also went to the newcastle concert - one thing I had to add - IMMEDIATELY after guy finished singing angels (a really heartfelt rendition IMO), the last song before the group encore, apparently a lightning strike blew out the power boards in the entertainment centre and everything went black - there was a few moments' hesitation while they worked out what was left lighting wise and then the encore went on regardless - not quite as they intended, using house lights and a couple of spot lights that were still working - but I've got to say they all rallied very professionally - (the whole show was extremely professional) - I was just left wondering about the timing? Kind of eerie, very dramatic, almost like divine intervention! Newcastle's a bit of a Shannon town - or else I was sitting in the wrong section! - but I was very proud of Guy's presence, utterly unaffected and charming and yet a good sense of stage timing, star quality, whatever, and the crowd gave him a great reception too. A great evening all round, very sorry it's over already. But I'm sure Channel Ten will broadcast it in due course.

Aurorab, thanks for the tips about Terence Trent Darby. WIll keep you posted!
Kaz, I didn't realise that a power blackout happened after Guy sang ABMH, and yes, its a bit weird. Also, after seeing the Canberra concert last night, I recall Guy sang that particular version of ABMH at Newcastle. He likes to add a bit of variation, which I like. Keeps it interesting. Poor Shannon made a bit of a mess of Waltzing Matilda in Canberra - high and low notes were missed. I sat next to an avid Guy fan at the Newcastle concert, thankfully. I'm not a fan of Shannon's.

forgive me, shannon fans, but last night's australia day concert was pretty bad!! i'm no musical textbook genius but it just sounded off, especially waltzing matilda, and he's just cruising through "what about me" these days - by rote, if you know what i mean, a bit karaoke. i really liked guy's variations too. brings something fresh to the song.

I think a DVD or TV special would not be out of the question. I think plenty of people would be interested.

Thankyou so much Cherub for your review, it was fantastic to read and I could feel the excitment of the whole concert. Wish I could go (exspecially to hear/see Guy ), but due to reasons, can't . I really, really do hope they will show it on Tv. *fingers crossed* Just curious Cherub, what would you rate the whole experience? Percentage wise.

Finally back from Sydney for an Oz day thing. I could only get in a quick post early this morning before we had to leave. Noticed I signed my name twice, I must have still been half asleep!!
AngelDust, percentagewise, I would rate the concert at 95%. I thoroughly enjoyed it and don't have much to complain about at all. The only things I didn't like were Cle's rock singing, and I too like Kaz am sick to death of Shannon's What About Me, as I think both Shannon's image and that song are way, way past their use by dates. But that's just personal things.
I found the lighting to be a little bit dim. I wish I could have seen all their faces a bit better while they were singing, but maybe that's just a Newcastle thing, being a regional area and all. Our Ent. Cent. would probably be nothing like as good as the Sydney Ent. Cent. or other performance venues around Australia.
Apart from that, the sound was terrific, the three big screens worked well, everyone covered the whole stage with their performances, not just the middle, and engaged with the audience. I couldn't have asked for much more, I think like Kaz said, it was very professional and impressive. I didn't even notice that lightning had affected the lighting etc after Guy did ABMH. Maybe I was still too awestruck by his amazing performance!
BTW, Matt looked a bit better than he did on telly. He seems to have blonder, surfie type hair now.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your opinion Cherub. The more I read Kaz's and your reviews the more I want to go! Maybe I'll risk and drop everything on the day and go. I would love to hear what Guy sounds like singing live, plus other favourites of course. But it's good to hear that it was worth the money, since that's what I was worried about plus the format of the show. Aw I want to go

OMG Thankyou so much Cherub! Aaaggh I'm so excited now...wow this concert is going to be so good. I'm thinking of making a poster now just so I can maybe win the chance to go backstage...and meet Guy...hee hee, I'm bordering on delusional now! ;D Once again thankyou. Hi Spirit! I'm in the 17th row from the front..I think in the middle of the row. So yeah I'll wave to you! omg too excited!

StarDust,
depending on where you live, maybe you could wait until some other people who see the Sydney concerts both tonight (as I write!) and tomorrow night post up, hopefully, what they saw and their opinions, interpretations etc.. and then weigh up whether it is worth you going in terms of cost, seating, travelling, sicky off work or school and getting into trouble or whatever, versus seeing a great concert, especially with Guy performing live imo.
Unlikely probably, but others may think it wasn't very good and turn you off it.

Raspberry,
I hope you enjoy the concert as much as I did. Please let us know what you thought of it (I'm sure you will), and especially if you, or anyone else for that matter, gets to go backstage because Dicko thought they had made a great sign. I really hope Dicko repeats this for all concerts.
Ryan,
Kaz has posted in this thread too about the Newcastle concert. I'm not sure if she has posted reviews anywhere else.

It wasn't really a review, just an opinion. Opps, should have used the word 'opinion' instead of 'review', made it sound big. Sorry, my mistake. Cherub, I won't worry about negative opinions from others who have seen it. As long as they sing the songs that I have been hoping to hear them sing (which they have) and see/hear Guy, then that's good enough for me.
