Aurorab - didn't Terence Trent Darby sing something called "Sign Your Name Across My Heart" a while ago? I loved that song. I suppose there is a resemblance between him and Guy, come to think of it. My favourite Guy song is Climb Every Mountain. His heartfelt performance of that song was the most fantastic performance of the whole series IMO. I get goosebumps EVERY time I hear it.
Unfortunately, I think the DVD player you need has to have something called a "multi-zone" function on it to allow you to play DVDs from other countries.
I really hope they release a concert DVD. I'm sure though that they will keep milking their Idol cash cow for everything its worth. I am a sucker, but I can't help it. What I would dearly like to have, now that I have a CD of Guy singing everything from the show, complete with heaps of screaming fans (its not available in shops, I would buy it otherwise), is a DVD of Guy only singing everything, from his Ribbon in the Sky audition onwards through to ABMH at the Opera House finale. BMG would make a motza out of that I'm sure. I'm surprised they haven't released something like that yet.
Family5 - I thought of another couple of things to test your ability to keep concert secrets from your kids. Bek sang Dance with Me (or is it Dance with You?) first (with Levi's help on the rap stuff). Its her song off the Final 12s album. At the end of the concert, I heard a girl lamenting loudly to someone that they didn't sing Rise Up - THE Final 12s song. Personally, I was glad they didn't. Levi sings a song about a Seniorita. Thats about all I can remeber for now.
I suppose I don't feel old, I am about 16 again it seems since Guy came into my loungeroom and blew me away!
I hope you and your kids really enjoy the concert, especially Guy playing piano whilst singing ABMH at the end. He will inspire them (and you) no end, I'm sure!!

Just a quick one Cherub... how long did the concert go for all together.. you mentioned a first half, then 25 min break then a second half. Because we have a 2+ hr drive I am trying to decide whether to stay overnight in Melbourne or come home again that night.
Re-read all your posts and if I get time I might copy and paste them all into one doc and get a list going for myself of who did what. I loved Peter's voice too so it's good to hear he does really well. I am going to take my camera but do you know if you can take in video camera's or audio devices?
Much appreciated...

Family5,
The concert started pretty much right on time, 7.30pm. After the group sang Let Me Entertain You, everyone sang their solos until 9.00pm. We broke until 9.25pm, then the groups etc started, and it finished at about 10.30pm. So it went three hours in total. Lucky it finished when it did, because we had a storm and lightning struck the Entertainment Centre right at the end! Dicko mentioned it as we were all filing out. You are certainly keen driving so far, 2+ hours, we had about a 40minute drive there, which isn't far really. I would have gone to Sydney though, if they weren't performing here.
There was a sign out the front of the Centre saying no cameras allowed, but the girls next to me were going for it with their digital cameras all night long it seemed. Others were too. No one got pulled up for it that I know of. Unsure about the audio equipment sorry.
Hope this helps and enjoy!

I don’t think they’ll release the concert on DVD because they didn’t do that for both seasons of American Idol. They might show a special of it for you next season though. But if Guy keeps selling more CDs they might put together a DVD of his music videos and TV appearances and specials he’s done and release it, if they think there’s demand and it will sell a lot – they did one for Kelly – but America is a huge country and they can easily make money off her devoted fans. But since they already included a lot of Guy’s performances in the greatest moments DVD they might think that’s enough – but you never know, Guy seems popular enough they might give you another one too.
Yeah, Terence Trent Darby sang “sign your name†(But it doesn’t show him singing at his higher register like his other songs where you’ll really notice even more similarity with Guy) It’s from his debut CD which is consider a masterpiece that won him Grammy awards.
I’ve noticed a lot of you guys really like “Climb every mountain†the most - maybe there’s something special about that moment watching him that makes you respond to it more than I do. I think its very nice too, but next to his World Idol performance his competition song I like most is “You’re the voiceâ€- it’s epic and he sounded beautiful and passionate. I always replay it over and over. I like “when I get you alone†and “angels brought me here†too and the rest are pretty good too.
Anyway, you gave us exciting review. I'm sure those who don't have tickets would like to buy one now. And maybe someone who attends the next one will post here too.

by the way, when I said they might show you the concert next season. I don't mean the whole thing. They'll focus mostly on behind the scenes stuff and maybe show snippets of the performances. Its nothing like seeing the concert itself.

Aurorab,
I hope a concert special is shown for those people who didn't go, and for those of us who would willingly see any of it again.
Maybe BMG will just wait and see how far Guy's popularity goes before they start investing more money in him to release a DVD of him alone (they have been known to be quite cheap - Guy's ABMH film clip is testimony to this). I have a feeling though that Guy will be around for a very long time. I will make a point of buying Terence Trent Darby's debut CD now that you have rekindled my interest in him, and listen out for his higher register to compare with Guy's.
Guy sang Climb Every Mountain when there was only himself, Shannon and Cosima left in the competition. The week before this, Guy was in the bottom two with Paulini, and as you know, Paulini went. Maybe I/we were all so intent on what Guy would come up with after his close shave, that seeing him pour everything he had into that performance, even shedding a tear at the end, made me/us realise how meaningful AI was to him, and for us, a wake up call of, woah, we really have to actually vote here, we can't lose him, and gosh, he was soooo good tonight. Maybe his rendition was thought-provoking and inspired people to think about chasing their own dreams? I dunno, all I know is I love it. My husband really loves What A Wonderful World, he admires Guy's ability to arrange songs so they become his own, and its just such a positive song anyway. You're the Voice was absolutely flogged on radio here when it was first released by John Farnham. I got really, really sick of it, so it has sort of spoilt Guy's singing of it for me. My other favourites of Guy's from the show are the old The Way You Look Tonight, Can't Take My Eyes off You, Hit the Road Jack and The Love You Save (even though this doesn't go for very long).
Will let you know what I think Of Terence Trent Darby.

To Rob's Dirty Gurl,
Dicko came on stage and got everyone to hold their signs up. He wanted to pick the best one, and that person or people would get to go backstage after the show. He didn't actually choose one the first time, just looked, and I don't think he made reference to the backstage bit at that time either come to think of it, not sure, but he came back later and got everyone again to hold up their signs, read out a few of them, made jokes, made reference to the going backstage bit and then settled for the "100% Australian Made Talent" one. Those girls had to go down to the stage and hand their sign over to someone just off stage who passed it on to Dicko.
I hope they enjoyed their backstage meetings and Dicko repeats this for every concert.

Thanks Cherub for speedy reply about showtimes and camera's etc. 10:30pm isn't so bad... the drive home might get all the 'after show talk' out of the kids' systems.
We are sitting 14 rows from the front of the stage at the Rod Laver Arena. I was 2nd in line at my town in the queue for Ticketek stuff... the guy in front of me got front row and 13 rows sold between his order and mine! Never mind they should still be really close and able to see everyone pretty good.
Meanwhile I am looking forward to the Aus Day Live concert on T.V tonight. Undecided about American Idol... we actually rarely watched any T.V at all (including my kids) until Aus Idol started and then it took out 3 nights a week. We are more a musical, sports and travel family and watching all this stuff has made us less fit for sure.
Have a great evening...

Just saw your last post Aurorab. I am no doubt sure you are right in saying that any special would not be a good run of the whole concert performances. The promoters etc wouldn't want to do themselves out of any dough if they thought people would wait until the TV version came on, even though it would be nothing like seeing the concert really anyway, but it would rate a good second for those who couldn't go.

Family5, I was 13th in line at Ticketek here, waited three hours and got to sit on the left side wall!! It ended up being fine though, the seats were staggered so we could see okay, and we were in the middle.
Apparently, someone else ('NorthernStar' I think) posted up that the first 17 rows in Newcastle were 'reserved' for media, promotional people and ticket winners, and others probably. That would explain it. Oh well, we still got to see our Idols (especially Guy) perform and enjoyed it very much.
I'll be off shortly to see AI3 and Guy. We'll tape the Canberra thing for sure so we can add it to the rest of the Guy collection!

Ok I see how you guys might connect more with “Climb every mountain†after what you said happened. And it has meaningful lyrics too so it must have been moving. I don’t remember hearing ‘You’re the voice’ before Guy sang it. But I loved it instantly – I prefer his voice singing it than the original singer too. (Although his is nice too) I downloaded Farharm’s version and I liked his too. It’s a great epic song. And I read that the song revived his career in the 80’s too, and it’s like the most successful and it crossed over internationally and topped the chart in England. But you guys probably get to hear it all the time because he’s Australian and you might be tired of it.
Oh I agree Guy will be around for a long time if he wants to. Even after he’s no longer with BMG.
Yeah Terence’s debut “introducing the hardline†was huge here and everyone bought it back then in the late 80’s. It’s still a great CD and every song is good, and I still play it enough. Get it. (It’s pretty cheap at amazon website in USA) But you can download songs from his other CDs that’ll show the style of singing similar to Guy’s “wonderful world.†Like the 5 songs I listed below. (I usually encourage people to buy from artists but you’re just sampling this)
“O Divina†and “What shall I do†(both from his new CD “wild card) “Delicate†and “I still love you†(from the CD “Symphony or damnâ€) “To know someone deeply is to know someone softly†(CD ‘neither fish nor flesh’)
Btw, Terence also calls himself ‘Senanda Meitreya’ now. But people still call him by his original name and his CD’s are listed under Terence Trent Darby.

Terence trent Darby writes all his songs by the way And even play some of the instruments on his CD. He likes to do it all
I didn't know Guy plays all those instruments you mentioned. I know he won a song writing contest with "No more" I really like that song too.
