I'm having a little difficulty understanding your logic here, and I certainly don't want to imagine any of that stuff. Furthermore, I wouldn't kiss or have sex with anyone I just met, and didn't say I would. What I'm basically saying by the comment is age does matter. I didnt say that you wanted to have sex with the person I was just stating an example, and see you proved my point you didnt want to imagine it and yet your saying age doesnt matter, even if you know the person a couple of months or whatever. I'm sorry to say this Dav but no matter if you have just met the person or you've known them for a long time....age does matter. Being friends with someone and being in a relationship are 2 TOTALLY different things, it doesnt matter if you have just met them or if you have known them for 2 yrs age does matter. You didnt want to imagine yourself doing that with a family member (example: that they would say be the same age as someone your interested in), and yet you say that age doesnt matter, Dav get back into reality and see that to some people age does matter and its disgusting seeying a 20 yr old in love with a 80 yr old (<--thats just an example)...

I still don't get why I'm supposed to have to imagine doing it with a family member to get your drift. Furthermore, following your logic wouldn't I have to dismiss younger girls, given that I wouldn't want to imagine doing it with my sister?

Oh, and also, why would I need to imagine doing it with male family members, when I'm only after females?

What I was trying to do (explaining it for the second time) was prove to you that to some people age does matter. You said that age doesnt matter, well to me (and maybe some others) age does matter, as long as the person is close to your age then its alright but if they are old enough to be your mum, dad, grandad, or even grandmother then thats wrong. I didnt say that you were after guys I was just saying examples. Now I hope I dont need to explain myself again cause I think that I have made myself pretty clear (for the second time).

Okay. But that really wasn't necessary. I already knew that to some people age does matter.

I'm a bit late....
But I want my 2cents worth...
I've had a rather long and intense relationship with a man who was 29 when I was 18 which is 11 years my senior and I felt the age difference.
It wasnt a question of maturity, nor was it a childish relationship -- but after a good 5 months, small things were noticible. Ideas on life, both of us at completely different stages in our lives... He'd been through things I was going through, our ideals were different because of the different stages we were at.
When I look back on it, I'm kinda grossed out by the idea of a near-30s man infatuated with someone who was barely legal... I do find it weird and although he's a very, very nice guy... I would never be in a relationship with someone more than 5 years older than me ever again, nor would I ever date someone more than 3 years younger than me (because, actually that'd probably land me in jail hahaha)
But what? because you're FRIENDS with someone half your age, apparently you're allowed to have a boyfriend/gf half your age? That's a really broad remark to make...
I have friends who are 14, 15, 16 years old... It is certainly not okay for me to be having romantic feelings toward them. lol. Even if I were in my 30s, dating someone half my age is illegal.
If I, for instance was Reggies age and had friends half my age, that still wouldn't convince me that it's okay to date someone around that same age. Having a platonic relationship is completely DIFFERENT to having an intimate, romantic relationship. The difference is physicality, sexual and being in love. You don't feel those things on such an intense level for your bloody friends, so that argument is just absurd.
Age differences can be overlooked in some cases, but in the broad scale of things, the statistics are actually pretty rare. Only because you have mostly more in common with people around your age group. (Ironically most of my friends are about a decade older than I am)
Anyway, I wish you luck with the girl, David. I hope it works out.

You went from making a generalization about relationships where one person is twice as old as the other to then saying sometimes age differences can be overlooked. I guess we both agree that it can be okay. I certainly agree that in most cases it wouldn't work out with such an age gap because of differences. I've only known three women 10 or more years older than me who I've really had much in common with and who I would be willing to consider. Opposites don't tend to attract. lol @ referring to Reggie again as an example of an old person

But I wasn't trying to argue-- I'm just saying that generally a relationship with such a huge age difference won't work... in special circumstances it could -- but in the bigger picture, probably won't.
I just think its weird that you say that because Reg could have friends half her age, means she could date someone half her age... it's just weird because ....... it just is... lol.
I'm non judgemental, mostly, but if Reg walked out with a 20 yr old boyfriend... I'd be a bit disturbed!
And Reggie isn't old... she's still a spring chicken. ;D

I only dropped in , inito this.
But Reggie can tell you - I have my own toy boy, he's beautiful and we've been married extremely happily ahem for a number of years.
Its a matter of - don't treat your romantic interest any worse than you would your best friend. Because that's what they should be. If you wouldn't say such things to a best friend, then one needs to check why they are being said at all.

Okay Jess, let's say Reggie was a little older, like 70 years-old. Would you have a problem with her being in a relationship with a 50 year-old guy? I'm guessing you wouldn't.

Umm, yeah...just a lil older at 70yrs!! And, erm, yeah I WOULD have a problem with that! WE all know that i look younger than my age (cus I got it loike dat!!! hahahahaha). But, yeah.....I wouldn't wanna be running around with a 50 yr old dude at the age of 70!!!! Although, I will say that My Mom is 70 and she look and moves like a 55yr old. Everyone thks that she is in her 50's! So funny! Yeah, thats pretty amazing. No wrinkles AT ALL, still in good shape and very active. Pretty cool!
