reggie can you clarify what sort of styles that Guy can sing when you say 'lots of styles'? And what style is Shannon locked into? Sure thing Guest!!! Guy: R and B, Pop, Gospel, Big Band, Broadway, Jazz ( I can give you examples of each as well if you want) Shannon: not sure what you call it. But you know that song that he sings called "What about me?" I think that he sings that song SO AMAZINGLY!!! That's the style that he is good at...really wicked. And, can't think of another style. So sorry just the one. He maybe locked in...but its awesome. Didn't you like that song?? And style??

In my opinion and many others I remember from that night Shannon put on better performances than the other contestants, including Guy for these themes. And I think he is even better at this style than his "What About Me' style.

Thank you if you think Shannon was awesome with that song Reggie IMHO Guy may sing those styles you mentioned but whether his voice suits all of them or not is another matter..no offense but let's not go into that.. As for Shannon, I think with his voice, range and power, he can get into a lot more styles than you mention..it is whether he wants to explore them and try them out like he did in the Big Band Show where he kicked ass with Under My Skin and esp NYNY..from that I know he can sing Broadway... he'll sing country rock, country pop, pop rock ... and then.. maybe even r n b or blues rock if there is such a thing.. there is such a thin line dividing these.. ifyou hear the song Wise on his album, it is slightly blues tinged and his voice shone there. When the finalists sang Ain't No Mountain High Enough on the r n b week , he sang the first few lines and he was good..mm damn good there... I happen to hear it theother day for the first time and I thought....THAT was Shannon and same with New Sensation (antoher song which you know he would not normally tackle )...I love his When a Man Loves A Woman.....one of his fans said..when she dies, she wants to come back as his microphone ;D ;he sang Gone Too Soon on the AB Medal Awards show so well and I don't know what you classify that. I hope he will attempt abit more of the r n b style one day.. when he gets more comfortable perhaps...

And I think he is even better at this style than his "What About Me' style. I really like his rendition on "What About Me", but don't like the rest of what he did. Shanon has poor vocal technique in many of his performance, even on his CD. He has nice rough voice, but can't use it well, IMHO. Sorry to say that. On the other hand, Guy is nice to listen to for one or two songs, but not too many. He did well in thc competition, but didn't do really well on his album unfortunately. I don't think you can compare Aussie Idol vs. American Idol as both have different styles and tastes. American Idol, however, has much better presenter (Ryan Seacrest) than Aussie counterparts. I think the two presenters from Aussie Idols are total idiots. The judges on American Idols are also better than Aussie ones, though Dicko is very good. Marcia is not objective enough, while Mark Holden is simply another idiot and deserves to be kicked on his groin. Just my 5 cents.. :-)

Thanks guest
Just another thing, how could Shannon have come second in AI if he was locked into one style? Every week the theme changes...

One of the factors that made Guy a popular winner was his music credibility. There are expectations that Guy will rise above the karaoke tag that idol winners get. I don't hear that mentioned much with A13, though maybe I've just missed those discussions. Is there any pressure on the american idols to be credible artists, to do a lot more than just sing covers or simply attract good writers to do it for them?

I just went and downloaded "Under your skin" since I couldn't remember it. I don't think Shannons problem is a limit to style, he sings different styles but he mimics. When he sung "New York, New York" he even seemed to move differently, like an older man, like Frank Sinatra. In "Under your skin" he sounds like he's copying someone else, a slurring of his words, a slight accent. Shannon spent years doing this, singing crowd pleasers copying other singers styles exactly. He doesn't sing them that well either. Shannon needs to find his own voice. I loved his "The way she loved me" he sings it earnestly and it seems true to him. I guess Shannon has a choice between following the same path or trying to find his own sound. I don't think he has to try and sing every style....what well known singers do. Will BMG let him develop on his own though?
