Is it just me or were the top 10 from Australian Idol just SOOO much more interesting and overall better singers than the ones from American Idol 3??
First of all, let me just say I think Latoya easily had the best voice of the AI3 singers, yet I think Paulini could easily outsing her.
Paulini's versions of "Don't Leave Me This Way" and "Somewhere" were IMO both much better that Latoya's versions of those songs.
Cosima, when she's at her best (like in the televised Oz Idol concert where she was absolutely brilliant), is a better singer than Fantasia Barrino or Diana Degarmo IMO.
Fantasia's voice really grates on me.
Guy and Shannon both leaves the likes of George and John Stevens for dead (although admittedly Clay Aiken, the runner up of American Idol 2 is probably a better singer than either Shannon or Guy).
I really loved Cle and Rebekah from Oz Idol as well. They didn't have quite as good voices as Cosima or Paulini, but were intriguing in their own way (Cle cos of her funkiness and cool tone to her voice and Rebekah because she was so convincing that she believed what she sung, even when she wasn't hitting the right notes).
Conversely, I can barely remember the names of the other girls from American Idol 3 top ten. All of them are totally forgettable.
Am I totally wrong here or were the Oz Idol 1 top ten much better than the American Idol 3 top ten??

Its a personal oppinion if the top 10 were more intersing....and we must remeber americans havent different taste overall than us.
But i do agree that the australia idol top had a large variety of people (and more guys for that matter).
I liked Aus idol better simply cos my fav won ;D
Edit: i see this ya first post ;D welcome to the board!!

I favour aus idol to america idol, but i think i'm just being biased.
I rather Fantasia's voice to the other 3 girls in the top 4. I agree with you on Latoya, though she had an amazing voice, it just didn't make me go wow, i find it kinda boring. There's something about Diana's that irritates me, it's too 'chipper' as stupid as that sounds.

In reply to the first post... I think the Aussie performers were more interesting than the US ones, but the US ones are better in standard than the Aussie ones. Paulini's voice was prettier than La Toya's and she was more interesting, but La Toya controlled hers much better. They're the only ones I can directly compare (as the two big divas). Plus it was nice to have Shannon around as the rock guy, Guy as the soul guy, Cosima and Paulini as divas, Millsy as the bad-boy pop nightmare, Levi as the hip-hop dude... The variation is nice.

You can hear Paulini heavy breathing in some of her songs. Her technique really sucks.

You are welcomed to you opinion!! I liked some of Shannon's downloads and one of his videos. He isn't as talented as Guy by a long shot...cus Guy can sing lots of styles. Shannon is pretty much locked into one or two. But he does them really well! He would definitely appeal to the midwestern, southern and/or hillbilly market. And that's BIG market in the States!!! He'll probably do well there...especially in places like Nashville.

Hopefully she will get better...but i would still rather listen to her than latoya Latoya is a really strong great singer but I agree, I prefer paulini's voice too ;D She just doesnt sound like she's screeching when she hits the higher notes, thats also part of the reason I'm a big fan of Diana's voice too!

reggie can you clarify what sort of styles that Guy can sing when you say 'lots of styles'?
And what style is Shannon locked into?
