Congratulations to Kurt Nilsen, worthy winner of World Idol. I must however say, that I was very disappointed to learn that Guy came in sixth position. Whilst watching the show I was amazed that Guy never scored full points from countries other than the automatic 12 from Australia. What was more unbelievable was the fact that his odds with Centrebet in the UK wer 6/1. Another thing that was apparent with the Pan-Arab voting was that countries who are so called "enemies" of the Arab world, polled low. For example Australia, Britain and America all polled in the bottom five out of the Pan-Arab voting. If this was an attempted political statement then it is a disappointing end to an excellent competition. Knowing the top five I know would like to present my top five.
1. Norway - Kurt Nilsen 2. Australia - Guy Sebastian 3. USA - Kelly Clarkson 4. South Africa - Heinz Winckler 5. Pan-Arab - Diana Karzon
I welcome your comments and suggestions.

1. Norway - Kurt Nilsen 2. Australia - Guy Sebastian 3. USA - Kelly Clarkson 4. South Africa - Heinz Winckler I agree with your top 5, but I would order them differently: 1.) Guy 2.) Kurt 3.) Heinz 4.) Kelly 5.) Diana I agree that it is disappointing if the Pan-Arabic votes followed political lines...but after all the crap I have read about Kelly on this board I can't say Australians aren't somewhat guilty of the same thing.

Disappointed with the whole WI show, it was an anticlimax and like someone has said in another thread, maybe it would have been better if was just showcasing all the other idols to the world without the voting, but eh I'm glad Kurt won. As for my top 5, well i can only come up with 3 1. Guy - eh i'm being biased 2. Kurt 3. Kelly

I am from Australia although I did think that Kurt controlled his voice better than anyone in the competition. However, Guy's natural music ability is astonishing and had the competition been
"WORLD IDOL: Compose a Song"
Guy would have won hands down. Another point I would like to make about Guy is that he tends to oversing a lot. What I mean by this is that his vocal aerobics should only be used to a certain extent.
World Idol was a very unfair competition, this is because, as I'm sure people have mentioned before, the difference in length as Idol was diverse. For example Kelly Clarkson has been American Idol for over 2 years now, same situation with Heinz, Peter and Alexander. This has given Clarkson and others and opportunity to already launch their careers internationally. Guy, on the other hand, has only been Australian Idol for 3-4 months, he has barely launched his career in Australia let alone on a world stage.

northernstar, I agree with you-- WI didn't show off the full potential of the contestants. I've heard Kelly sing and quite enjoyed it, however, (in my opinion)her performance in WI wasn't as good. It might've been OK vocally (I'm not an expert in the talent/full ability area) but to be honest, I didn't enjoy listening to it. Sorry Kelly fans, I have nothing against her, but I don't think she was at the greatest of her ability... Part of that would've been that she's sick, but she wouldn't have fared very well against Australian Idol top 12 with performances like that one in WI. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that they should've sung more that one song.....or have an elimination thing week by week like the national idol shows...

I loved Kelly on WI, in my opinion it was much better than she was when she did that song on American Idol (no more screechy note). But I only listened to a kind of budge quality version of it on AI so I can't really be sure.

My Top Five:
1. Guy 2. Kurt 3. Kelly 4. Will 5. Dunno!!
Re: Brett's remarks about Guy
SO tired of people saying that Guy oversings, vocal acrobatics etc. Listen to any R and B, Blues or Gospel singer (seemingly some of Guy's major influences) and you will find the same. R and B is about interpreting a note or a scale. It is NOT about singing a straight note all of the time. You will find this with ANY great R and B singer. Also, everyone forget's that this is all new to him. Sure that his already considerable musical abilities and talent will grow with time.

Brett - Guy came 7th not 6th. He was only one point ahead of Alex the Polish girl who came 8th. An incredibly small margin

First I will reply to 'duh' sorry about the mistake. I had seen a report on a website placing Guy in sixth position. However I accept that I made a mistake. Sorry bout that.
Now in reply to 'Reggie'. I understand that Guy is influenced by R&B and Gospel however I still believe that he sometimes oversings some songs. For example the last note/s he sings in 'Wonderful World' reaches approximately seven notes on the one syllable. I find this a little annoying SOME TIMES (not most of the time) and the same sort of problem that Pete Waterman described to Kelly Clarkson about "too much trilling and frilling". This is only my opinion however.
