I liked shannon and think hes good-looking and good singer but doesnt have that 'wow' factor
what was most annoying was the mag headlines with him saying 'I deserve to win since Im the most australian (he said he didnt actually say that but they have it in tape) he whined that needed to win to feed his family (unmarried guy so shouldnt have 2 kids if not afford them) and after he lost to Guy, he said I will probably be living in a tent next week..which would be rubbish as could easily make living after Aust Idol, even just singing in his band....plus Guy had written a song for him, which Im sure will have some success. plus he was signed to BMG same week.
If he was on WI it would of been him not will young being told to get singing lessons by one of the judges. shannon needs lots of help with the songsl, and also gets help how to move on stage.
He will do well in Aust and maybe NZ but not the rest of the world

(unmarried guy so shouldnt have 2 kids if not afford them) I'm sorry but that really p*sses me off. He is engaged and lives with his fiance, why shouldn't they have children? Guy chooses not to have a family until he is married that doesn't mean everyone has to. Rochelle got pregnant - did u expect her to kill their unborn child by having an abortion? That comment is just so wrong. If he was on WI it would of been him not will young being told to get singing lessons by one of the judges. Will Young and Shannon both have beautiful voices and I'm a fan of both. Why would either of them need singing lessons after one WON their idol and the other came SECOND OUT OF 10 000 PEOPLE! He will do well in Aust and maybe NZ but not the rest of the world We'll just have to wait and see...

Most of us do appreciate his style and talent. But at the same time, I believe that an opinion of Shannon should be based on an individual's tastes rather than courtesy. For example, if I don't like Shannon's style, courtesy can't and shouldn't make me enjoy it. Courtesy can only make me tolerate it. However, as you say, the expression of someone's opinion of Shannon should be a matter of courtesy. After all, he puts effort into his singing and it is his life's calling, and that should count for alot. ie It is possible to appreciate his efforts, if not his voice. At any rate, you can be happy in the knowledge that you're more open-minded than the people who diss Shannon and can enjoy more types and styles of music than they can . Best of both worlds, I'd say . (btw, I do like Shannon's style.. )

Voters will chose who they like, alot of people liked shannon, - fair enough.
The point of my post is, that I don't think he had the level of PROFESSIONALISM that was reqired to reach the top end of the competition. As a previous poster pointed out, we tolerated him - I did because I thought he had humility, Shannon only tried to be himself. Technincally speaking he was an amateur who can't work a stage. Guy was so professional, there was no comparison. If only he picked a better song at WI.
on another note - how the hell can anyone be "crowned" world idol on the basis of a one song performance!!

Yeah, 1 song is unfair for all contestants .
That's why,,, what is the hell in the whole wide world,,convinces guy to pick that song.
Remember shannon & guy were in the same group in the top 40. Shannon sang 'better man' and guy sang 'what a wonderful world'
Shannon came first and guy came 2nd.
I had to admit i like guy now after seeing him sang week after week , but first time i saw he sang "what a wonderful world" back in the final 40, I really hate him.
May b there are a lot of people in the world like me, that's y guy finished 7th.
So yeah 1 song is really unfair , i agree

I was actually a bit pissed when he did get through cos I figured he only got through because of his hair...and I still stand by this theory! Contrast this to when he sang Climb Every Mountain when I was pracatically squealing into my pillow. (and I am usually no squealer, and definately not a Julie Andrews fan!)

I think Shannon would have done alright but i think Guys preformance was good, he just didnt appeal to the rest of the world. After seeing what they voted i think Shannon would have gotton a few more votes then Guy. I think we r forgetting the important issue here though, how would Cosima have gone at WI?? lol, just jokin guys! Cyaz xoxox

what was most annoying was the mag headlines with him saying 'I deserve to win since Im the most australian SIGH. Just so you know (although it has been said for quite some time and repeated numerous times by Shannon) Shannon did say a comment similar to that but in fact he said that he was 'the only country Australian" in the competition. That is obviously true - I am fairly sure that none of the other contestants lived out on a farm like Shannon. The media, however, seems to have chosen to leave out the word 'country' so it would seem like he was being somewhat racist. Sigh. Just another example of manipulation of quotes by the media. he whined that needed to win to feed his family (unmarried guy so shouldnt have 2 kids if not afford them) God what kind of a world do we live in where a grown man cant make decisions about his own affairs without adhering to the old 'No children/sex before marriage rule'? Shannon has every right to do what he likes. Also he never 'whined' about it - he mentioned the fact that he would like to win Australian Idol in order to support his family. He never made a HUGE fuss over it - the media however picked up on this and made a fuss, just like they did about Guy's virginity. Guy may have mentioned it once and then suddenly, due to the massive issue the media made out of it, it would seem like he was yelling it from the rooftops. Anyway I love both Guy and Shannon and I dont know who would have done better at World Idol, but I'm sure neither of them need the title to succeed in their music careers. Good luck to both of them.

all Im saying is ppl often voted for Shannon because of his looks, or out of sympathy after reading all that in a several mags, and about his dad dying a few years before, as Ive seen then saying it online.. and yes he did say that he should win since he was most australian..he said afterwards meant 'country' australian when ppl said he was racist but the interviewers have him on tape and it was reported again in a mag after he made that fuss. I just think there are heaps of low-come families and if to cant afford to feed them, dont have more kids and you dont try get sympathy for it, and then to say Im probably going to live in tent next week, since he'd lost idol sounded like sore loser, ... he was runner-up, and would find some kind of work even if it wasnt singing.
Shannon will be successful in Oz/NZ but it should be because of his music and think he is nice guy but has to stop trying to make ppl feeling sorry for him.. anyway Im sorry if upset anyone just think that the Aust winner should be based on singing talent etc more than sympathy and guess since Guy won it, ppl finally realised that in the end. maybe shannon didnt mean for it to come out in the mags as whining, but thats how he was coming across to many
and then to find a fairy tale thread saying that Shannon would of done better at WI is insulting to Guy

julie andrews never sang climb every mountain another misconception shannon fans are under I have actually never seen the whole of the Sound of Music...i saw one scene where they were making kids clothes out of curtains and that was enough for me. All I meant was that it was not the type of song I would usually be at all interested in. And I think you will find I am not "A Shannon fan."
