They all seem to like Guy's version of the song...except for maybe two posters are just plain rude!

I can sort of understand why hardcore fans might be reluctant to accept someone doing a cover, especially someone off an idol show. If someone covered one of my asbolute fave songs, I'd get a bit protective too.
Although if they take the time to listen to the song with an open mind, i think they would find he did the song justice!

Funny enough that negative posts seem to came from Aussies. It makes sense though... we got to see the rest of the idols and know who missed out because of Guy. Also, Australians who aren't fans of Guy seem uncomfortable with Guy's title as "Australian Idol" just cause he's not their personal idol. I guess it's irksome. I mean if Millsy (sorry Millsy fans! I just ldon't like him) had made it as Australian Idol I'd be pretty irked!

When Aus Idol first started I really thought that it was going to be like Popstars or something, where the 'talent'didn't really have any. I think that Guy has broken that mould a little, but it will be hard to convince anyone who is not a Guy admirer that he has any singing/songwriting ability based on the premise of the show. Somehow, the public tends to think that if the fame came easy to you (ie Idol) then you are undeserving, like yu gotta struggle to be a true artist.

That's the part that annoys me. People jump to the conclusion that the reality TV beginning must mean that the winner is talentless. I'd say they're confusing the word 'talentless' with 'opportunist'. Those garage bands who wouldn't deign to try for a record deal when one comes along are just shooting themselves in the feet. I get it if they want to protect their integrity and have artistic freedom and therefore don't take an opportunity like this, but if it's just 'cause of the 'reality' thing, then it's pure snobbery and career-killing. The publicity is worth it, if nothing else. Though I guess that some of that publicity does equate to stigma. What I found strange was that Guy has taken the brunt of the stigma, whereas Shannon's dodged most of it- but he owes his success to Idol too. Anyway, about the talent vs reality TV show issue, I just didn't realise how small-minded and willingly deaf some people could be. Grrrrrrr. Rant over!

I think Guy summed it up best-"You can't manufacture talent".

I agree too. The show did help but if Guy or the other idols were not good enough they would not go past the auditions. Let's say that AI made Guy/idols stars but these idols also made the show very popular. Think of 3.5 million viewers tuning in to watch Guy or Shannon win.
I was listening to Prince's WDC and made a comparison to Guy's version in another site. For me Guy's is so much better ( Say I'm biased). He sings it with so much feeling and depth that my heart just melted and my hairs stood on end(swooned). Prince's WDC did not have any effect on me at all. (not being disrepectful).

Maybe this is just going to make me look (and feel) old, but when I was younger, Prince's WDC was one of my favourite songs - when I listen to it now I still can't help but get absorbed. I LOOOOVVVE Guy and his version of the song, but there is still something about Prince's version for me that makes it just that little bit more special to me, probably the time in my life it reminds me of. I do, however, love What a Wonderful world a la Guy better that Louis' version, even though I know that Louis' was a classic.
