Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I have e-mailed to a couple of Sydney members too. Just wanted to make sure it gets to you all before the meeting starts. I leave at 9am for the airport so would not be able to follow it up. Dear Project Starfish members, I regret to inform you that due to work commitments and a late scheduled change to our meeting date, I will be unable to attend this Sunday the 20th of March meeting. I would like to send my prayers and best wishes to all those involved for a productive meeting filled with great ideas. Though I am unable to attend I have had some ideas floating around my head for the last couple of weeks and would like to send them on for discussion at this Sundays meeting. One idea that I have been thinking through is a toys/equipment/resource drive. My rational here is based purely on a child’s capacity, desire, and innate drive to learn, and need to process and explore their environment, regardless of the conditions they live in. Play is the basis of all development. A child’s capacity to cope emotionally, physically, socially, linguistically and cognitively comes from their environment, and even while these young children are currently living in less than adequate conditions, they will still have an innate drive to explore their environment and continue to learn and grow. I feel that we need to learn the following information in order for me/us to think through, and seek information on age appropriate equipment and recourses. We need to know their ages. We can essentially break the resource grouping for toys down to a series of age groups for play, and this way we can assess which areas would require more resources immediately, and then look at fully equipping the centre as time progresses. The age groups that we can break play equipment into is roughly 0-6 months 6-12 months 12-18 months 18mths to 3 years 3-5 years 5-8 years 8-10 years 10 years plus Do they have any existing equipment? Do they have teachers working within the orphanage? If not I would be happy to provide a four weekly play/developmental plan and consult once a month regarding play strategies that will best enable these little people to grow and develop across the board developmentally. I can also update monthly programs based on basic observations from the staff. I will be able to consult over the phone on how to observe for progressive developmental programs and this way we can begin to incorporate individualised strategies to ensure all children are fully catered for. There are several ways that I can think of that we can look into gathering equipment. I’m sure you guys will comes up with heaps of ideas too. One way that I feel will be very effective is the Internet. There are many, many forums for parents, that I can research, that have a steady flow of visitors. We can perhaps promote Project Starfish on these open boards, provide links and advertise our new ‘toy/equipment/resource drive on our new site, or simply state the drive is happening and direct them to The Star Fish website for further information. Is that viable? Is it allowed? One thing I think is that people will be happy to offload the toys they have stored in the garage/the roof/in cupboards, so long as it’s simple. Perhaps a delegate from the State could volunteer to go and collect the toys, if they (the donators) are unable to get them to a central location? Another way is at garage sales. We do not need brand new equipment, we just need equipment that works and is clean. Just about every single garage sale has a couple of boxes of toys that no longer suits that families particular need that are generally in great working order, and often amazing value for money (e.g. $5 a box and often the total cost to purchase that equipment brand new is in the hundreds). I have personally done this for low income families, and know it is easy to do, the paper advertises the sales each Saturday and Sunday, and all you need to do is go early and pick them up. We could contact kindergarten supply centres and explain our current drive, see if they are interested in donating any equipment. Even if it’s one new puzzle, it’s something. Now this following suggestion is just a random idea that I’ve had floating about. This is a long shot….a huge long shot, and may well be so totally left of field but I feel it’s worth suggesting anyway. Currently, in each state, there is a restaurant that is features on the channel 10? Reality program “My restaurant Rules”. This is hosted by ‘Dicko” (a huge Guy fan himself). As Guy fans, just about every single one of us knows how to get first in a queue, or first in the door, and if we could perhaps organise a co-ordinated attempt to have a meetings (wearing t-shirts or ‘starfish’ logo’s somewhere that will draw attention) in each states restaraunt, we may well get air time to promote to the Project, and the website, thus the ‘drive’. This would result in high traffic to the site and hopefully a donation drive that is very successful. This could be in conjunction with promoting several other drives that have resulted as a product of the brain storming sessions at each states meeting already. I only suggest that because if we only have one or two drives happening at the time of promotion we may well end up with more toys that we know what to do with (though there are many other orphanages/charitable organisations we could offer the remaining toys to anyway). See I told you it was a long shot! I hope that doesn’t sound too odd, I just think it could be a fun way of promoting ‘Starfish’ and if it comes off, could well result in an amazing end result. We know how powerful the media can be, but they don’t really know how powerful Guy’s army can be! Obviously the logistics of how do we transport the toys? and from where do we finally send them? how do we send them? And how can they (the orphanage store them securely) will need to be talked through! Ok then, again, apologies for my absence , I was very much looking forward to this meeting. I hope to see you all at the next meeting Best of luck, and may God be your guiding hand while you talk through ways to help our little Star Fish. Regards Sheenia

PRAYERS FOR PROJECT STARFISH
HI EVERYONE,
I ask that you all pray for the efforts of Project Starfish. Through our International Rotary contact we are in the last phases of being connected to a large and active local Sydney Rotary Chapter. Additional, as per the model for Rotary when working internationally, we are also in the same position with a Rotary Chapter in Sri Lanka (in the Western Province of Colombo).
We are in the last phases of sealing these connections and so it is imperative that we all pray and ask that GOD guides us in the proper direction in terms of these efforts. We have been very blessed in that the Rotary International Chair for Projects has taken our Project under his wings. He has opened many doors for us. I personally thank GOD for him.
Additionally, as we suspected from the beginning (and thus the reason for setting up Project Starfish on a long-term basis structurally) there has been severe problems in aid monies reaching, AND, even being donated to Sri Lanka. Items are being received, but many many more are needed. In my humble estimation and opinion, Sri Lanka has been severly overlooked. Also, as with the orphanage that we are sponsoring land prices have risen dramatically. Currently, the children are being housed in a leased temporary dwelling. The boys sleep outside on the porch and the girls sleep inside. Some of the children have been transfered to private homes. The leased house is rudimentary, at best. It is my understanding that Rev. Sanders has been able to purchase a vehicle. However, they are still struggling to find a parcel of land...due to escalating costs. Additionally, the orphanage is struggling with the purchase of machinery to actually clear a parcel of land, as well as with the purchase of a new boat.
Unfortunately, many of their basic needs are still not being met. For example, Midsummer received an email from Rev. Sanders two weeks ago stating that they are STILL in need of basic items such as blankets, sleeping bags, and kerosine lamps.
This is why it is important for your prayers in terms of our efforts with Rotary. Rotary in Sri Lanka is set up to be the purchaser of these bigger items, through fundraising efforts from outside chapters, as well as the delivering body. They are "on the ground" already and possess the infrastructure to do so. Also, it is my understanding from speaking to the President of the Rotary Chapter here in Sydney that they have ALREADY held a fundraiser but have been sitting on the money raised while they searched for a project involving children in Sri Lanka. So, please pray that these monies can be directed to the orphanage in their time of need.
Please note that it is imperative to move the children into safer dwellings prior to June...which I believe to be the start of the rainy season.
If you have any further questions please PM me, AG, SoC, Midsummer, or Nanouk.
Thank you for you prayers.
As always......
Peace,
Regina

MAP OF SRI LANKA AND WHERE "OUR" CHILDREN ARE The children are being housed in the Eastern Province of Batticaloa. Look to the right side, go half way up. This is the area of the original orphanage. It is my understanding that they are searching for a property more inland than where they were previously situated.
Peace,
Reg
ps You will find the Western Province of Colombo (this is where the Rotary Chapter is situated) on the left side, near the bottom.

PRAYER FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
Dear Lord,
Dear Lord, my heart is hurting so for the earthquake victims. Please Father, I ask that you strengthen them so that they may feel the warmth of your loving embrace. Their trials have been so great. Please strengthen their souls so that they may continue to accept YOUR love into their hearts. Dear Lord, please comfort them, protect them and provide for them the knowledge that YOUR GRACE is their safe harbour. Fully surrendered to you Lord, I most humbly ask that they be blessed with safety and shelter in their time of need.
I ask for all of these things in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, my Holy Redeemer and Saviour.
AMEN
Peace and Love,
Regina

MELBOURNE PROJECT STARFISH MEMBERS
Notice to all Melbourne members of Project Starfish (and those who wish to become a part of it) that the first official Melbourne meeting will be held soon.
There will be a delay because of school holidays coming up in Victoria during which people may go away on holiday.
The plan is to have the meeting on the First Sunday after the school holidays. Hopefully this gives everybody a substantial amout of time to organize themsleves for that day.
Melbourne members live far and wide so if someone who lives somewhere in between Werribee and Dandenong would like to volunteer to host the meeting that would be great and would save some people from driving miles.
The meeting will be structured according to meeting rules and an agenda will be followed.
The meeting agenda will be sent out a week before the meeting.
Please pm me or Nanouk if you are part of the Melbourne group and/or if you would like to attend the meeting.
Looking foward to out first Melbourne meeting and to gettins some projects going
ag
Vice President Media
PS. Please let anyone who you know might be interested in attending about the meeting and especially anyone who doesn't visit this or the other boards regularly...thanks!

Hey Every one. I was on this site and I found a poem that some one had written about the Tsunami. It shows the feeling's of the person who wrote it, and I think the words this person has used gives detail as to just how bad the Tsunami really was... I thought I might post it up on here, if thats kool with ya'll! TC GB Luv lots, Chikky La La xoxoxoxoxoxo -------------------------------- Waves come crashing suddenly from the raging waters of the sea It's fury is as a consuming fire as it's force spreads rapidly Taking with all it's force anything along it's path with jaws of mighty strength swallows everything with it's wrath The mightiest of great ships tossed like empty soda cans What once stood standing high has crumbled upon the sand What took a lifetime to build is swept before our eyes Mighty cities tossed about spread now in ruin it lies A mother mourns her child's side with tears of sorrow and grief Waves of water have interrupted has left everyone in disbelief Do not underestimate the power of the jaws of the roaring sea It can destroy a mighty city as torrents come ferociously Bow your head and say a prayer for those who're suffering there Can one day happen where you are for mother nature doesn't care

TO REGGIE!!"So full of life with so much to do she spreads her wings and flies, when someone needs a helping hand you know she'll hear their cries.
A friend like her is hard to find I know because I've tried. When I'm in need she is right there busy or not, she'll find the time. Her wings don't show, but I know for me they always shine.
She hates to wait, but that's no crime you have to understand her. She'll give you the shirt right off her back; she's everybody's mother.
I'm proud to say that she's my friend don't know what I'd do without her, so I just wrote this little poem to let her know I love her."
Reggie, I didn't write this poem, but I felt it said things about how I feel towards you. You are seriously always there for me and when I need to talk, you find the time, even if your super busy with work etc. Your always helping every one. I mean, look at Project Starfish, without your big, loving heart, and hunger to help people who are left with nothing after the Tsunami - Without you, this wonderful organisation would not be here, it would not be changing lives and making a difference. You do hate to wait, lol! Always want things done right there and then - it's not a fault, it makes you, you! You want to see results and you want to see them fast - Every one does, but you have the will to make things happen quicker. You motivate yourself to do things, even when you don't feel like it, you do it cause you want results, you want to see something happening - Thats a great quality and many would love to have that! She's everybody's mother - Thats not saying your old!!! LOL (although, you are old enough to be my mother! ) but seriously, you are like a mum to me. I know I can come to you when I need to talk and I feel like your my second mum! But then, your also a really close friend. It's like how a mum can be your mum, but also can be your friend - thats how I see you - it's a compliment! I am seriously proud to say your my friend (my mum ) and if you weren't in my life, I don't know what it would be like, lol. I mean, it would be the same probably, but I wouldn't have the friendship with you that I treasure so deeply, and I probably wouldn't be as much a part of Project Starfish as what I am, and I thank you for allowing me to be so heavily involved and trusting me in getting things done, even at my age (just goes to show young people arn't all slackers! ) I didn't write this poem, but I found it and thought of you, thats how much you mean to me, Reggie. Your on your journey, and you know I'm here when you need to talk, I'm always here to listen!! God knows the road your on, and your on the right one. Always know that God is there for you, when ever you need to talk - Go to him first. Reggie, you are so inspiring. You amaze me with everything you do, go through etc. And how well you handle things. You inspire me a lot - Don't change, your fine the way you are. Your loud, funny, annoying (at times, but we all are so it's all good ), caring, beautiful, kind-hearted... The list goes on, lol, But I love every quality about you. I love your good qualitys, and even your bad ones, lol. Because, mix them together and that makes who you are, and I love who you are, just remember to be yourself, and stay the same, cause your fine the way you are - Your not perfect, but no one is, lol, but your one heck of an awesome chic, woman of God, inspiring in many ways, beautiful inside and out, and I love all of that about you! I love you heaps Reggie!!!!! Don't forget that now Take care, God Bless!!! Luv lots, Chikky La La diva girl xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
