The Legend of the Starfish
A vacationing businessman was walking along a beach when he saw a young boy. Along the shore were many starfish that had been washed up by the tide and were sure to die before the tide returned. The boy was walking slowly along the shore and occasionally reached down and tossed the beached starfish back into the ocean. The businessman, hoping to teach the boy a little lesson in common sense, walked up to the boy and said, "I have been watching what you are doing, son. You have a good heart, and I know you mean well, but do you realize how many beaches there are around here and how many starfish are dying on every beach every day. Surely such an industrious and kind hearted boy such as yourself could find something better to do with your time. Do you really think that what you are doing is going to make a difference?" The boy looked up at the man, and then he looked down at a starfish by his feet. He picked up the starfish, and as he gently tossed it back into the ocean, he said, "It makes a difference to that one." *THANK YOU FOR YOUR POST LURKER C. Blessings!

That's a wonderful idea Reggie and very practical too. I'm sorry I can't be part of it (living in NZ!) but will do my bit over here. Best wishes to you and anyone else organising relief for the survivors. My prayers are with them in this disaster.
Love, Wendy

Hi guys,
Okay so i registered to post this... I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
I'm more than happy to host the vigil at my place (in Brisbane) on the same day if you still need a Brisbanite.
I'm not sure about the access to couriers and all that though so we'll have to see how it goes.
Great idea, by the way.

I will help where ever I can for this cause!
After spending a couple of days in the red cross call centre I am aware that they are pushing so, so hard for money plain and simple because that's the main need right now, but so many people have donated and still feel they need to do something.
This is a lovely way, for the many people that feel so helpless as to what to do at this stage even once they have donated money. This way we can actually feel as though we are actively involved in helping, even if it is for a brief time.
All my charity donations have been re channelled for the next 2 years to the red cross Tsunami appeal, and at the end of that period it will be assessed.
Even then, with these actions in place, I am desperate to help, I truly think that this is a lovely idea.
To all those who have lost friend, family or loved ones, my whole hearted condolences.
I pray you find Strength in the Lord's love to see you through this devastating time.
If I am unable to physically attend this event however, because of work commitments that has me interstate, I will ensure I have the donation pack ready. I am keen to see the list.
Thank you for organizing

Hey Everyone, We, in the Guy Army, have proven to be a very effective and proactive force. So I thought that we should again pool our resources and efforts to start an ITEM/GOODS DONATION DRIVE for the disaster victims. I am prepared to do the following (and much more!): On Sunday, January 8th 2005, from 4:30pm-6:30pm I can host a vigil for Guy fans at THE DIVA'S CLOSET (my business in Sydney). Fans in the area will be invited to attend and bring with them any goods or items for the survivors (I can post a list from UNICEF of requested items). I am thinking that this would be a good way to launch the drive. I am also prepared to offer a part of my business storage area as the storage zone for collected items. I will bear the expense of delivering the goods to the appropriate organization...I think that will be UNICEF (I will check once we decide to go forward with this idea). The only cost to you all will be the purchase price of your item/items and postage cost for delivery to me. This post will be sent to the following sites: Yahoo (Guy's official site), Guy Matters and Guy Fans (if there are any that I have left off of the list can someone please let me know, thanks). I will send this information (plus my address and phone numbers) to the Moderator of the sites. They can, hopefully, then pass the information on by email to all of their members. I also thought that it would be awesome if someone could organize vigils in the following cities: Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne (or any other city) on the same day. Perhaps this person could also be the point person in that State for the collection of items as well. If that is the case, I am still quite happy to deliver the goods to the appropriate organization if that person could send the collected items to me. Whatever is easier. PLEASE allow me to apologize for coming up with this suggestion before talking to anyone. I pray that we can turn it into action as there are so many in need. I just really felt that I HAD TO DO SOMETHING. And because I have a business here I am quite prepared to use its infrastructure to support this project. I have, as I mentioned before, storage space and I have access to courier services (which will help with the delivery of goods to organizations). Please let me know what you all think. This whole event is SO MIND BOGGLING and my heart and spirit ache so much for those in dire need. We are such a passionate bunch, us Guy fans, so naturally I thought if any group could get this going...The Army could!! For those who don't know me my name is Regina (although because you Aussie's shorten EVERYONE'S name I am, appparently, known as Reggie!!) and I am a member of the OG'S on Proboards35. Umm, I go by Bigbootygirl (lovely)or BBG for short. There is a thread on our Board so please come over and post your thoughts on this idea (if you are reading this on Proboards...well, then....you are already in the thread!) Please feel free to PM me as well if you are a Proboard member if that is more comfortable for you. If the response is positive then I will start planning on Monday. I NEED HELP TOO!!!! So anyone willing...please let me know. Thanx everyone. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND PEACE TO THOSE IN NEED. Peace and blessings, Reggie "A MILLION HEARTS ARE HURTING CUS THEY LOVE YOU. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND FEEL THEIR ARMS AROUND YOU NOW." - words from Beautiful Friend This is a great idea Reggie, In Adelaide there is also a company who are putting together medical donations to fly out with Singapore Airlines by the name of OPAL Overseas Pharmaceutical Aid for Life, Kilburn SA might see if they need anything as well. Do you have a list of things that can be delivered over to you ? Bless you, Caregirl
