I actually met Courtney a while ago when she was just a lil baby princess I was involved in the Drag cabaret scene as a regular guest performer in a couple of the shows at the Albury Hotel in Sydney a couple of years ago & you couldn't meet a sweeter young thing Courtney is an absolute doll has genuine talent & will go a long way regardless of whether or not she becomes the Australian Idol Good on her for having the guts to get up there & put it on the line

I think Courtney is fantastic! It's obvious that the judges feel the same way, but are concerned about how to market a drag queen on the commercial pop music scene.
I would so love to see her win, although I don't know how she's going to go, considering the middle-of-the-road voting that's been going on so far.

Despite how fantastic you might think of Courtney, I dare say she/he won't win. Considering that teenage girls form the largest consumer block this is quite active in the music market and often the deciding factor in whether a band/singer is successful or not: I don't think they would actually vote for a drag queen (let alone the Australian public). Shane Jenec is pretty good looking himself, maybe he should have performed as himself rather than Courtney, and let his boyish charm win those teenage girls over?

Shane *did* perform as himself in the first episode of Idol and didn't get through! So he came back the next day as Courtney to try his luck and he succeeded. Judges recognised him from the day before and praised him for being so determined. - snip - Shane Jenec is pretty good looking himself, maybe he should have performed as himself rather than Courtney, and let his boyish charm win those teenage girls over?

I actually think it was a good choice for courtney to be chosen into the wild card show. I think the show gets pretty serious sometimes and courtney just makes the show more fun to watch.
However, I don't think she'll make it through - simply b/c she can't sing.

Yeh id ont think Courtney has a good voice but what standsout about him is his or her sense of humor and wit. I saw courtney at the auditions and he/she is a real crowd pleaser when it comes to performing and joking.

Received this email from Lee Fuller about Courtney Act-
To Whom It May Concern,
On a couple of occasions recently I've attended venues at which Courtney Act performs regularly (so I was later told by a friend) While on stage (on quite a few occasions) I've been quite cheesed off to see her encouraging punters to vote for her on Australian Idol, including this Sunday/Monday night. I've previously been in support of this resourceful performer and it was refreshing to see a member of our community up there in the prime time spotlight, however, I do also consider it unacceptable for her to be enlisting the support of crowds at her shows in a bid to be the next Australian Idol. I'm sure you'd agree this is not at all fair on other contestants, particularly those lucky enough to get another go as a "Wild Card", as has been the case for her.
I've also been told by friends that Courtney has been observed engaging in self promotion in recent times at a number of her regular shows around Sydney. When you consider these venues can hold up to 1000 people at any one time and that she performs several times a week, the canvassing potential for votes here is quite significant. I would not have perhaps brought this to the attention of the show, but for the fact that I truly consider Courtney may now have a very unfair advantage over other "Wild Card" contestants, now also with a week (during what is effectively a voting period for her) up her sleeve in potentially predisposed votes.
While she might appreciate the "business woman" side of being a performer, I really feel encouraging crowds to vote for her may be taking the "business" aspect a little too far and many people I know share similar concerns.
I am also aware there a number of people within the gay community who are also a little miffed by what they consider to be tokenism and "easy ratings" on behalf of the show, in terms of Courtney making it through as far as she has, especially when comparing her talent in terms of vocal ability to many other quarter finalists.
In any case, I consider this extremely disappointing, however, it's to be hoped self promotion like this will be addressed accordingly, as I'm sure we all want to see a fair show, with the voting process kept fair for other contestants, in order to see votes based on what the Australian public want to see in our next Australian Idol.
Best Regards,
Lee Fuller

I don't really see any problem with self-promotion at one's own gigs. Surely, if one goes to see a performer live, one is already predisposed to vote for them anyway?
As far as I'm aware, the show's ban on self-promotion outside the show only relates to mass media, not to appearances which are just another gig which the contestant would be doing anyway.
Is anyone able to clarify?

I personaly loved Courtney!!
I am dissapointed in the Australian people. I would think that being so evolved as people that we would understand the she is only human. It doesn't matter that she is a man dressed as a woman!
I think she can sing as good as the others. I think she has more stage presents then all of the contestents put together.
I think that the other contestents can sing and that sure they would be marketable, but who wants another Britney, Cristina, Whitney, Robbie, Kyle and Usher!! God, that is so boring!!! We need something to spice Australia up! I think that Courtney would add some SPARKLE!
I would think that all of you would be a bit more open-minded towards her. With everyone going "yeah I like her, but the public won't vote for her" The only way that is going to change is if "YOU", the public, changes and says "Yes, I love her and I think that evreyone is going to vote for her" You are all sheep and I think that you should stand up for what you want wether it be Yes or No!
I also don't think her telling her audinces to vote for her is wrong. They are there to see her, why shouldn't she and if any of the other contestents was to do the same thing then good on 'em. Please don't be petty and try and get her cut; if you don't want her in then, DON'T vote.
The fact that Mark, Dicko and Marcia love her, should say to the australian people that yes she is fabulous and that she is great and would be great. She can make it if Australia is open-mided enough. We will see won't we!!!
I think that young girls are more open-minded then Critic is making them out to be. If you are male you are scared of her because you feel attracted to her. Now if you are female you are scared because she is better looking then you. Get over yourself and your insercuritys as a person!!
I love the fact that she is testing the waters.
I am voting for her. I think she is the best packege there!!
;D

Of course Courtney is going to tell her audiences to vote for her. All the contestants will be doing the same thing in their own ways, if they have any sense.
For example, after Andrew G and James surprised Rebecca at her church to tell her she'd made the wild card round, don't you think the 4000 people at that church service would then have been encouraged to vote for her? And there was a local campaign in Geelong for Brandon Burns (from Group 4), including articles in the local newspaper, encouraging people to vote for the local boy.
So I don't think Courtney's done anything wrong. And after her amazing performance in last night's show, I hope she makes it through.

yeah, have to say that Courtney (Shane Jenec) as a twinky boy is rather arrogant. Fortunate that he isn't going the the finals, it would only fuel his high horse!
