Thank you all so much for your animated, but fair discussion.
On behalf of all of you, i would like to declare LAUREN BUCKLEY as by far the worst finalist (according to our straw poll) .
Matt ran second and Millsy third.
The only person not to get a vote was Pig Farmer.

Syrup, I elected to come back after I saw people jumping to conclusions about what i had written. I didn't say that i didn't connect with Guy, I said alot of people didn't connect with Guy. All i can write on is from my experience. I can't write on anything else. So no i don't think i wasn't clear about what I had written, just that people were assuming way too much out of a little sentence that I didn't even attribute to myself. For example you said i disliked Guy so I hadn't accepted his popularity and triumph. That is a ridiculous thing to say I am in denial. I made it clear i don't like his voice. But i love Guy the person. So of course i didn't say i disliked Guy. If i did dislike him i would have said it straight out. I was being clear. I had to come back and sort it out because people were making ridiculous assumptions about what i had said. And yes I don't like Cosima for what she did and is doing, I know a few things about her. I thought i was being reasonable. Alot of people come on this board being very unreasonable but I'm told I am in denial, confused and that I've freaked people out. Maybe I am an idiot because I take what people say on here to heart even though I know you aren't suppposed to. Perhaps because I haven't used forums before. I'll be off now then, bye.

Guy didn't connect "with the majority of australia" just the majority who (a) own a TV (b) watch Oz Idol and (c)bother to vote
Plenty of people enjoyed it and had a favourite but were NOT getting sucked in to paying Channel 10 for voting or they had an optus phone and didn't want a bunch of $2 bills from those bastards at Telstra
Anyway if people think guy sucked and they can't stand his scale masturbating singing style then that isn't an "ill concieved" opinion it's personal taste

Guy doesn't connect with a lot of people, his voice is bland, he always sounds the same no matter what kind of song he's singing. He also breaks up his notes too often, and that's quite annoying to listen to, he doesn't make it flow beautifully like Paulini. Hi again "Hello"! Thanks for your reply. I don't mean to dwell on this too much, but there are a few things I'd like to tell you. Thanks in advance should you once more extend your courtesy to reading it all. As you can see from the above quote, and as I said earlier, it's very difficult to imagine that Guy had much positive impact on the author. My reference to your disliking Guy was Guy the performer not Guy the person. You made no reference to Guy the person in a direct way therefore there was nothing for me to say about that. Again I direct you to the fact that you posted the above in a thread titled the Worst Finalist. Couple that with the contents of your quote and perhaps you'll see my angle. Once more I emphasise the fact that it doesn’t matter to me whether you like or dislike anything about Guy. I hope this much is clear. I personally received no indication that you had detached yourself from your statement until your later clarification, because you didn’t say something like “I’ve been in contact with many people who don’t connect to whoever etc etc” which would have left room for belief that it wasn’t a view completely shared by you. The way you presented your opinion and given the thread you put it in, led to the misunderstanding. In addition, as far as Guy the person goes, I made no reference to your like or dislike of Guy the person. I only made reference to what you actually stated, and in particular the connection factor, not the vocal style etc. Whether you like or dislike Guy as a person is a factor you brought into the discussion at a later stage and of your own accord. This is the first time I’ve addressed it and only in response to your raising it. Don't get me wrong, I've been an advocate of respecting people's *personal taste* and yours is no exception. I'm merely trying to explain to you what led me to that conclusion. You saw yourself eventually that others made a similar assumption. I apologise for offending you. It was not malicious intent to do so. You aren't an idiot to me if that matters to you at all (even though it shouldn't). I was just dumbstruck to read your statement regarding the lack of connection thing more than anything else in view of the fact that Guy had connected enough with an overwhelming number of people enough to give him the AI title. Anybody imho would be a fool to believe that he connected with everybody; I've never made such an assertion. In any case, to finish things off from my side, let's then just say that we both misunderstood each other. I again apologise for obviously offending you. If you do happen to post on message boards again, and I actually would like for you to continue posting here being the civilised poster that you are in my eyes, take your own advice and don't take things to heart as you said. It really isn't worth it. Take things purely on a discussion level only. It will make the experience more rewarding for you. When I first came to this particular board, actually right up until a little while ago, I'd sign off sometimes feeling totally worked up. It dawned on me that I was taking some things to heart, over and above the discussion level. It irked me when I felt I was being insulted. I made a conscious effort to stop feeling this way. How we come across on a msg board doesn't necessarily mean that it's an accurate reflection of us. Where there's an absence of facial expression, body language, or plain vocal intonation, the soul of our message can be completely misinterpreted. With this in mind, coupled with the fact that some people are only around to “stir the pot”, I decided to discount taking things to heart. Message forums can be a fun and stimulating past time in reasonable doses. (reasonable being a subjective thing). I hope the remainder of your visits here, should you return, will be more uplifting or at least more pleasant.

Remember that while it can be ill conceived, an opinion cannot itself be wrong or right. It all comes down to personal perception.
Boxot, I wrote the statement in italics in another thread of this forum and thought I'd expand on my own view of what could constitute as an ill conceived opinion. My belief is, it's one where it involves one-eyed speculation on a situation with complete refusal to view the situation in any other light e.g. the Cosima thing where little has been proven beyond doubt either way.
modified to add:
In relation to comments regarding a judgement of talent and preference of style, I completely agree with you that it's personal taste and cannot be labelled as ill conceived opinion...(always referring to a self formed opinion).

I'm sorry but Syrup can't become a lawyer as I already have her slated as a UN mediator! She's got some Israelis and Palestinians to sort out first.

Hullo again :>
hehe I'd make a baaaaaaaaad criminal lawyer, that part I can guarantee you. If I felt that the party was guilty, I'd refuse to defend them. Funnily enough, I did a social science degree and majored in legal subjects including criminal psychology. I opted to teach legal studies instead for awhile. I've since left the teaching profession though. If I didn't have a lil idol of my own these days, I'd very likely have gone into peace keeping missions. Maybe it's the aquarian influence. :>
