Australia: They were represented by Lenny Kravitz wannabe Guy, who sang an atrocious arrangement of Louis Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World'. The man has a great voice and charisma by the bucketload, but his vocal chords didn't go anywhere near the original tune of the song. He wandered off into the audience halfway through the song a la Toto Cutugno and got a great reception. The jurors all loved him and loathed the arrangement of the song. He looked like the first real challenger for the title.
This Guy who wrote it should get over himself.

Some of the comments posted were disgusting too.
I'd bet those bloody beasts reduced more than five to tears. I'd put money on:
- Jamai - Alexander - Diana - Alicja - Will - Maybe Heinz - And maybe poor Ryan (it's okay Ryan we love you!!!)
...to have been reduced to tears.

I SOMEWHAT UNDERSTAND WITH THE CRITIQUE. i'VE HEARD WONDERFUL WORLD (CD VERSION) AND PEOPLE CAN'T REALLY RELATE TO HIS VERSION UNLESS YOU LISTEN TO IT AT LEAST 5 TIMES. GUY WOULD HAVE DONES HEAPS BETTER IF HE SUNG WHEN DOVES CRY IN THE EXACT VERSION AS HE SUNG IT IN AUSSIE IDOL

If Guy did the same up-beat performance of What a Wonderful World which he gave during Aust Idol, then I have to differ with other contributors. While the Louis Armstrong original is an uplifting experience via a more reflective type of performance, there's is nothing wrong with re-interpreting the song in a more upbeat way. The lyrics of the song practically demand that you be happy. Happy + upbeat ...what could be wrong with that? Now, maybe ppl don't like Guy's arrangement of the song because they have fond, almost sacred, memories of the original arrangement. That's fine, the original arrangement is perfection. But that doesn't mean we can't explore it a little further. Music is subject to and exists because of community, culture, and communication - it should never be something stagnant (as in sedentary, not stagnant as is stinky). Or, perhaps, Guy's arrangement just wasn't good. I personally really liked it (on Aust Idol) - considered on it's own, not in comparison with good old Louis. I'm not egotistical enough to consider myself any kind of expert in the matter, but I do have some taste when it comes to recognising good music. But more to the point, considering what the performers coming into the World Idol thought of what the show was meant to be - ie a celebration of world-wide musical talent, not a slanging match - to rejoice in an upbeat version of What a Wonderful World would seem appropriate for the occasion.
But that's just my opinion.

I can't stop playing Guy's album and one of my favourite songs is "Wonderful World" I absolutely adore Guy's version of this song and I know others who do also. I also like Louie Armstrongs classic version but if I had to make a choice I'd have to say I actually prefer Guy's!

I love things that are original... and i love the way he has made thoughs songs his own! Some people say that just because he has redone the songs to suit his style doesn't mean he is talented... i totally disagree He wants to make it ORIGINAL! It would be boring if everyone sounded the same!
