Is it someone who uses mate as every second word in their sentances? If it is then you are sadly mistaken. Australians are a many and varied people, from all backrounds, from all walks of life that call this country home. You can not say to someone that lives here "you are not an Australian because you are differnt to me". If that's what you think then you are the only one who is Australian. Everyone is unique. How dare you say that guy is not Australian . Define Australian? Is your descrition of an Australian someone with Blue eyes, fair skin, and a last name like Smith? Is it someone who uses mate as every second word in their sentances? If it is then you are sadly mistaken. Australians are a many and varied people, from all backrounds, from all walks of life that call this country home. You can not say to someone that lives here "you are not an Australian because you are differnt to me". If that's what you think then you are the only one who is Australian. Everyone is unique. It was a little ridiculous to see someone saying the same thing about Ruben Studdard. I mean, if asked what are you, as in what blood do you have in you, no one living in America would give "America" as their answer or one of their answers. A white American might say, for example, that they are part English, part Scottish and part Polish. They aren't going to say they are part American. Even the Indians, who came before the whites, wouldn't say that. Thus saying that Ruben is African not American is a little ridiculous. What is an "American?" We could ask the same thing in regards to Australia. No one living in Australia is really Australian, in a sense, so I don't see why we should be restricting definitions. But if we were to do that, those who wanted Shannon to win because he is a "real Australian" should surely not regard him as a real Australian either. The aborigines got there first, so if anything they are the real Australians. If we allow the definition of 'real Australian' to include the white people, who got there next, shouldn't we include others who come as well? There probably were a few Orientals who came along with the white people. No one who came to Australia was Australian, yet they came to be accepted as such. Why allow English people to be Australians but not Asian? If it were all Asians who came to Australia instead of white people, would those making the comments (white people) regards Asians as true Australians but not themselves? No, probably not, because they want to be an Australian. I think anyone who was born in a country or lives there can regard themself as from that country. Ruben may be African, however the white people in America are English, Irish, etc. How could he be less American than them?

I can tell you from experience that racism isn't nice at all. Thank you zzzzzzzzzzzzzz for backing me up. Anon needs a reality check. (maybe a brain check to cos I don't know if s/he has 1) Racism is so outdated. We do not live in the dark ages where everyone had their own clans or tribes living on 1 land. We ARE Australians. We are one people, living on one land as one nation. EVERYBODY that lives in this country is Australian. It doesn't matter whether we are black, white, brown, yellow or even pink with purple dots. This is OUR country, mine, yours and Guys.

This is off the Anon track, but still on the racism track.
Did anyone watch "my generation" last night? Well if you did you may remeber a scene where a teenage female was being walked home by a teenage male. The police stopped them and asked the female if she was okay, then started harassing the male untill the females father, who just happened to be passing by stopped them and explained that everything was fine. The male was being harrased by the police because the female was white and the male was not. This made me upset and I said to my parents "that's discusting". Unfortunatally that's what it was like in the 50's and 60's in America. We are not America and we are not in the 50's or 60's anymore. People shouldn't behave like we are.
