I'm sorry but this show is deeply flawed and is heading the way of that other atrocious effort Popstars. I have nothing against the contestants who are mostly pretty damn good. the problem is the whole process of allowing the Australian public to vote for continued inclusion. Its the last thing you should do! This will guarentee the inclusion of the most mediocre performers at the expense of singers with real talent. e.g. Cosima out and Kelly in. The Australian public will vote out the tall poppys, vote in the mediocrity out of sympathy for the underdog (the Aussie way!), leaving a series which will only end in another anticlimatic fizzle. Sure the winner will get a top 10 hit but will then disappear. I cant take the show seriously if it is really trying to come up with a world class act by this middling process. Let all the contestants be picked by the judges including the eventual winner. Good luck to all contestants who I feel are gutsy!

Yeah, but it's about appeal. And there have been talented people who do get through e.g. Guy.
It also has to do with the choice of song the contestant makes.
I think that when the appeal and the talent is there, then the audience picks up on it.
I'm sorry but I don't see why everyone keeps on going on about how Cosima was robbed. She chose a bad song, she sang it okay, but there was nothing particularly compelling about it. I mean, if she is so talented why choose a mediocre song that limits your ability to show that talent.

Guarantee one thing - there is NO Marcia Hines-type talent on display from any of the contestants I've seen.
The whole idea of "Idol" is ludicrous - the very show name reeks of shallowness.
Angus Young wouldn't win any prizes for idol-type looks but there's more talent in his head than all of the contestants I've seen put together.

Yes, i must agree, Angus Young and/or many countless other renowned artists have excelled and mastered their craft without resorting to manipulative moneygrubbing tv shows. I just hope that many of the contestants can gain something from this experience careerwise. In reply to Frida: ..."I think that when the appeal and the talent is there, then the audience picks up on it." I agree the audience will certainly pick up on the appeal and maybe talent. But only in the superficial "whats on T.V. next" short attention span sense. This is entirely against the shows aim to generate an enaging talented singer of International standard. The Australian audience (not you specifically Frida) will not be able to discern this person, nor will they be motivated to support them once the show is over. The superficial interest will have waned and the next "reality show" will be around the corner. Scandal Us and Scott Cain Popstars) are good evidence for this phenomena. Thats why a judging arrangement, where people in the business and people who know the craft would be better placed to recognise someone of genuine star attractive power. Let the judges decide all the way! Brip
