FROM ZERO TO HERO!
How Millsy from idol became rob mills, popstar extraordinaire
Hey guys, what's up? I could be better - i've been bedridden over the last few days because i had my wisdom teeth taken out! yeah, it was great... not!
but more importantly, i've been in the studio every day
getting my album together!
the first single from it, as you may know, was originally called the way she is, but it's been renamed miss vanity. i'm definetly nervous about how successful it will be, but the first time i heard it, i thought it was a hit! it tells of a girl who always gets her way, and
how the guy singing the song will never be what she needs. yeah, i've had that experience before - hasn't everyone?
when i first got a record deal, i ws given a lot of songs for my album that just weren't hits. i actually thought i was going to get the songs that guy and shannon didn't want! so i've been writing my own stuff. they wanted me to record a cover of love in an elevator by
aerosmith, but i said no - it just wasn't me. you can't do steven tyler! he's the man! but i'm still thinking about putting alright now by free on the album. i really love that song.
even though i'm making music now, journalists still ask me more about my reputation as a ladies man. but at least they're still talking about me! i don't mind,it's who i am. i'm a charming dude! but i think my fame has
definetly made me more attractive. i mean, i'm an average looking guy! but i think i've always been famous in my own mind. i was always
doing little concerts at home. in year 9 we had a festival of the arts concert, and my music teacher told me to go up and sing. i said "no! i can't do that!" so of course i did. my mum and my girlfriend at the time cried! it wasn't all great though - i got a good kick in the pants in year 12 when i got a D in my singing exam!
it was the worst audition i've ever done. i was singing for two examiners who stared back at me with no response at all, and i got nervous. they didn't respond to the millsy charm! people are writing in to my website asking me what they should do for their australian
idol auditions this year.i say just get out there and be confidant. And be prepared for the fans! i guess i got my first taste of what it's like to be famous when me and the other idols went to a shopping centre in blacktown. there were about 6,000 people there - all screaming. i thought "that's a bit wrong!" i had no idea there were going to be that many people there. i felt like a rock star!
fans have done crazy stuff since then. i had a cake baked for me on the show, i've been given several teddy bears. some fans got my phone number so i had to change it, and i also had a stalker for a while outside my house. i also get recognised quite a bit. i try to pull my cap down over my face, but it doesn't work - i've got big ears. oh, and once this girl came up to me at a show and said "how about a kiss?" i went to give her a peck on the cheek - and she grabbed my head and went for the whole tongue kiss! I said "hey! i'm gonna need
some of that tongue for later! there are other girls here!"
i'm usually a pretty happy-go-lucky sort of dude. i try not to let too much bother me, like bad press and stuff like that. and i'll admit, a couple of celebrities have tried to flirt with me, one that i'd care to name though! i don't think i'm a proper celebrity though. i still meet famous people and get totally star struck. and they're
probably like "who's this guy? and why is he here?" so what's its like being famous? it feel good and i like it here. but i'm still millsy. i'm still the same guy. but i'm pretty stoked that now i can say i'm an artist, not just some dude who went on a reality tv show!
