162 hope to be next Australian Idol By Andrew Murfett June 19, 2005 It's a month before the next series of talent quest Australian Idol begins screening on Channel Ten, but the nationwide auditions have already concluded, with a record 162 finalists heading to Sydney next week. "It's going to be a very expensive show for Grundys," laughs judge Mark Holden, "because even though they're bringing that many to Sydney, 80 of them will be gone in the first 30 minutes." Holden blames the exceptionally large number of inclusions on Marcia Hines and a surprising level of gentleness from controversial new judge, Sydney shock jock Kyle Sandilands. Sandilands has said he is looking for the "complete package", while Holden was searching simply for vocal talent. Some suggest the number of vocal talent shows in the past three years is too much for a nation of 20 million, but Holden says there is still talent to unearth. www.theage.com.au/news/TV--Radio/162-hope-to-be-next-Australian-Idol/2005/06/18/1119034101313.html
