Carrie Underwood is American's newest Idol. She now joins the Idol Hall of Fame alongside Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino.
Carrie, from Checotah, Oklahoma beat blues boy Bo Bice to the crown but it was close.
Almost 30 million Americans watched the final of American Idol 4. The 2 hour special registered 29.4 million viewers, 15.8 million of which were aged between 18 and 49.
500 million people voted for this year's American Idol. That is almost 4 times as many people who voted in the last US election.
She will release the track 'Heaven' as her debut single next week in the USA. The B-side will be a cover of the Guy Sebastian's Australian Idol debut 'Angels Brought Me Here'
