Anthony Stays At Number One by Paul Cashmere 11 April 2005 Idol runner-up Anthony Callea has held back the competition and maintained the number one spot on the Australian album chart for the second week running. Callea's self-titled album sold around 18,000 units in the last seven days bringing the tally to just under 59,000. While the album still falls short of the premature double platinum accreditation it received in the first week of release, it should deserve one real platinum sales status by the end of this week. The released of the album has stopped sales of the single 'Rain' dead in its tracks with 'Rain' selling just under 5000 units in the last week. The "double platinum Rain" is going to struggle for even real sales of one platinum award. So far, only around 42,000 fans have dug into their pockets and taken a copy home. Callea still eclipsed his other Idol competition this week including last year's winner Casey Donovan. Her 'What's Going On' sold around 760 units. He also beat Guy Sebastian's Oh Oh' which increased in sales to around 2200 units last week. Callea also beat himself. His debut single 'The Prayer' fell out of the Top 40 after selling around 830 units. One interesting newcomer into the chart was former Popstars winner Tamara Jaber who went on to join Scandal'us. Her debut 'Ooh Aah' debuted at No. 13 with around 3,600 sales. Tamara is the live-in girlfriend of newly appointed Idol judge Kyle Sandiland. Sandiland not only runs the label the single was released through but has giving the record plenty some much needed free publicity via his Sydney radio show on 2DAY-FM. Conflict of interest? Now we all know that would never happen. www.undercover.com.au/news/2005/apr05/20050411_anthonycallea.html
