DESPITE having no acting experience, former Idol Dan O'Conner has landed a part on Neighbours.
The singer from Sydney was as shocked as anyone when he was offered the guest part on the soap, which could become permanent.
He had his first day on the set this week, after two auditions to get the role.
"I think I went all right," O'Conner said.
"I was really packing it.
"I came on set and I didn't know anyone; only knew the cast by their characters and was sort of thrust into it, but that's the best way to do it.
"They were all fantastic, all great people."
O'Conner will play the brother of Blair McDonough's character.
As well as Neighbours, O'Conner is filming a mobile phone soap opera with Tatiana Grigorieva, fellow Idol Marty Worral and Home and Away's Emily Perry.
The six-week project involves thousands of still photographs being taken in character, which will then be packaged up with dialogue and be sent to the phones of subscribers.
It's a modern-day comic strip.
The mobile phone soap is called Random Place.
Looking back on Australian Idol, O'Conner said he felt the experience had been positive.
He also had some kind words for Casey Donovan.
"I haven't really heard that much about what's going on," O'Conner said.
"I just know that Anthony (Callea) is getting a lot more attention then Casey, which is pretty sad.
"She is incredibly talented, as is Anthony. It's just a bit sad."
