John Foreman Launches Nescafe Big Break 2004
Musician John Foreman has launched the NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK for 2004. Foreman's ties with the NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK go back to 1990 when he became one of the first winners.
John credits the NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK for staring his career. "It enabled me to be able to record my first CD" he tells Undercover News. "That lead to so many other opportunities. It really was my Big Break in the true sense of the word".
The money he made from the award gave him the chance to record his first album. "It was a jazz album which featured a lot of young Australian jazz performers" he says. "A lot of those performers also went on to become professional and work overseas so it was a good showcase for those people".
As an example of what can happen for those who enter, John came back in 2004 to promote the cause. "I launched the 2004 campaign for the NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK just to create an awareness of the award and let people know that it is up for grabs" he says. "It doesn't cost anything to enter. It is a way for NESCAFÉ to give back to the community. I want to spread the word and let people know it is certainly worth investigating".
Artists outside the pop category can have a hard time breaking into the music industry. "For a young jazz artist it is difficult to get the attention of the record companies but when you have a grant like NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK behind you it creates opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise have" he says. "The thing about the award is that over the years it has been won by musicians, by computer programmers, but fashion designers, people who work in the community".
John hasn't stopped working since he won the award and has some big things planned for 2004. "I've just finished working on Good Morning Australia a couple of weeks ago. I'm getting ready for Australian Idol 2 which is really exciting" he says. "I did the Logies a couple of weeks ago and I do Carols By Candlelight. A lot of these things have come about because of the attention that was focused on the NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK all of those years ago".
He is currently in the studio working with one of his Idol colleagues. "Right now today, I am working on Marcia Hines next record" he says. "I'm also hoping to do another recording under my own name soon, in a way like what I did with NESCAFÉ BIG BREAK all those years ago in a way that is more contemporary for 2004".
