Australian Idol's single breaks records Laura Anderson 25nov03 GUY Sebastian already rivals Sir Elton John – and he has only been Australian Idol for a week. Unprecedented demand for the Idol's first single, Angels Brought Me Here, induced BMG to produce another 70,000 copies yesterday on top of the original 140,000. BMG's South Australia sales and promotions manager Simon Saunders said the demand for the single and the need to produce extra copies on day one was "absolutely unprecedented." "The last time this would have been done was for Elton John's song for Diana," he said. "All of the stock has basically sold out straight away, there have been massive orders filled in the store." Even Sebastian's older brother, Oliver, was not able to get a copy. "It is phenomenal – it is the quickest-selling single we have ever had," said Michael O'Rielly, area manager of record retailer Sanity Entertainments. www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,7966771%255E662,00.html

Guy's sales soar with Angels November 25, 2003 AS Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian slept in for the first time in more than three months yesterday, he was breaking sales records in his sleep. Before 10am, BMG was announcing Guy's debut single Angels Brought Me Here had gone platinum. Within minutes of HMV's City, Mt Druitt, Penrith, Parramatta and Burwood shops opening, the single was wiped clear off shelves. While BMG yesterday released 140,000 singles nationally, music shops across Australia had reordered a further 70,000 by lunchtime. But there was no time to celebrate yesterday with Sebastian all but chained to a studio where he will produce a full album in the next six days. His only trip out of the Sydney studio will be today for a flight to Melbourne to be interviewed by Rove McManus, a helicopter transporting him from the airport to the Ten studio to save time. "The demand for Guy's debut album is already through the roof," said BMG's Ed St John yesterday. dailytelegraph.news.com.au/story.jsp?sectionid=1266&storyid=541469
