Anthony's real reason to cry

IDOL contestant Anthony Sumbati was last night disqualified from the Idol race after giving a radio interview.

The blow comes just two weeks after his father kicked him out of the family home because he wanted his son to "get a real job". (More Australian Idol)
While contestants are bound by contracts not to give unauthorised interviews, "particularly while the voting lines are open" Sumbati claims he was fooled by 2WS FM into giving the interview, saying the producer told him it had been cleared with Channel 10.
But a spokesman for 2WS last night said the interview had been set up by Sumbati's manager and Channel 10 denied they had allowed Sumbati to give the interview which also aired on Mix 106.5 yesterday morning.
The interview had been conducted under the "full knowledge of his manager", radio producer Peter Clay said in a statement.
But Sumbati's manager, Joey Sulfaro said he had been told it had been cleared with Ten's Australian Idol publicist.
Sumbati, 25, became one of the well-known faces of Idol when he cried over the phone to his father after getting through his first audition.
"Just tell me you're proud of me, Dad," he cried, the teary plea running repeatedly in Idol promos.
In a rage over Anthony's involvement in the show, his father last Saturday threw his clothes and belongings out of the house and onto the lawn, leaving the young talent homeless, friends and relatives have told Confidential.
His story of rejection prompted one reader to send an anonymous gift of $500 to Confidential to pass on to Sumbati to help him in achieving his dream.
