A very large percentage of rap/r&b singles that come out at present have one artist/s collaborating with some other artist or artist/s. You have one act, and then the song features someone else, like 50 Cent or Ludacris. Having artists feature so regularly in the music of others has increased so much, and I just wonder how that started. Let's go back in time. How many rap/r&b singles from 1995 or before can you recall that involved collaboration?

Ohhhh I know a few, but it's late and I'm tired. But the one that springs to mind is:
* "Whatta Man" by Salt N Pepa feat. En Vogue, I think it came out in 1994
I also think the whole Linkin Park/Jay-Z thing was first done by RUN DMC and Aerosmith with "Walk This Way". Now that was a 'mash-up'! I love that song ;D
I'll post some more next week, from the uni computers - faster connection speed...

lol Thanks for that, though I probably should have said not to bother making a list. We're obviously agreed that there were less collaborations back then, and that was what I was getting at.
