Over the past week all I have seen in the media is the bagging of the male Idol judges for comments made to Paulini about "that dress". I also saw John Farnham come out and claim that Mark has no right to judge people by stating that "he wasn't that great a talent 30 years ago and he's not now". Mark's two records as a singer went gold and he had two major hits. Holden is now a successful song writer and record producer. He wrote and produces the "Rise up" single and wrote "Movin on" which is no.1 at the moment. Farnham also said "where's Vanessa Amorosi? he was looking after her and now she's dissapeared" as for that comment, Mark's also looking after Delta and she picked up seven aria's this week for an album he produced. May I also remind you that Delta has dumped Farnham's manager because he wasn't doing his job properly. Who do you think is out of line?

:-*I know people here will hammer me, as the ' I hate Holden' campaign gets even bigger but you are correct in what you say (above), which will annoy alot of people here and everywhere. Mark Holden is qualified to do the job on that panel as you outlined in his history. Dicko doesn't get as much public slamming as Mark does and this is interesting. I work with both men and I can say they are both good people and know their stuff. Both men contribute to making this entertaining tv and both are to be admired for coming onto the show and doing their thing. It is a hard thing to do week after week as their families watch on in dismay! I know posts to follow this one - will undoubtedly be filled with name calling particularly of Mark but you know, those in the industry apart from Farnham - know Mark is not totally stupid when it comes to music. Interesting to see what you all say now to this, but its no doubt a string of nasty comments directed at the judge's appearances or habits. But they do the job and upped the ratings by about a million viewers for ten last week! Not bad considering they are not contestants!

yeah thanks! At least someone is saying that. Everyone who has got a nasty putdown of the male judges just you try and get up there each week? Imagine what it's like with all those camaras and people there! Especially when you're struggling with something to say. For the record Mark and Dicko gave different comments to P about her weight as this poster Angel pointed out somewhere else on the site. Mark didn't say she was fat - he said the dress NOT HER was awful. Listen to your tapes again....Dicko said that the clothes were inappropriate and if P wanted to wear that sort of thing then she needs to shed some pounds. He also didn't say she was fat - he said she needs to pick better clothes. It seems like the press excused Mr Dickson but crucified Mr Holden (who said alot less). I think people should focus on the contestants and leave the judges to do their thing. It is the business end of things and we have to get the votes happening. In two to three weeks the judges will go back to obscurity but the contestants won't so lets get real. Dicko has the winner to work with and mould, Mark has Delta and his management company to oversee, (is he the producer for the Idol winner when they sign to BMG BTW?) so let it all go.

Just because ALL THIS PUBLIC DEBATE has clarified some of the intentions behind Mark and Dicko's comments about Paulini, doesn't mean that the public's first gut reaction wasn't hurt and concern for others welfare. To quote one of the groovy songs off Marcia Hines album: Marcia Live across Australia - "Whatever goes around comes around now baby , yeah!" Frags

Fair enough, Holden does have the professional skills to get the job done properly - and very successfully (ie. Delta Goodrem) which shows that Mark does shine when he is behind the scenes in the thick of it with writing and producing - so thumbs up to him in that department. We love and enjoy the stuff he produces, so really, well done. You know - you gotta give credit where credit's due...BUT: I feel that whilst Mark does shine behind the scenes, when he is in front of that camera and in the spotlight (ie. when it's his turn to make comments about the contestants) Mark is a very selfish, self-centered man. He makes everything about him, and he's just a down right sleaze sometimes. He says inappropriate and unprofessional things to the contestants - just saying the wrong the, at the wrong time..ALL THE TIME! I'm sorry, but while Mark Holden might be successfully writing and producing records and artists we love - i say DON'T GIVE UP YOUR DAY JOB! We don't want to hear all those stupid little nick-nack lines you constantly spit out - and we're sick of seeing your self-centered face when ever it comes time for you to say something. Sorry. It had to be said.
True, Marcia is the rose between the thorns in the sense that she tries to keep her comments constructive and optimistic so that the contestants are uplifted rather that shut-down...Marcia is a sweetie and i love her (as we all do) and i do also love Dicko. I respect everything he says (even tho i didn't respect that Paulini comment about her weight and dress). I think 2 out of 3 of our judges, most of the time, say the right thing.

It seems obvious to me that if Mark was a sleeze or is self-centred then he wouldn't be a judge on Idol or a successful record producer. I don't think Delta would put up with that Bull... or she wouldn't have sacked her manager. As I said before, not everyone can be as nice as Marsha. If they were some of the harsh but fair comments wouldn't get said. This is usually left to Dicko who I think can be alot harsher than Mark.

what's irritating is the audience's reaction to the Judge's critism towards the idols...i find it rude when they judges are being bullied to keep their critism to themselves.

The audience don't seem to relise that Mark has actually been told to be harsher or he'll lose his job. so it's a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. Also as Dicko pointed out it's reality T.V so if they kept the critisims to themselves it wouldn't be reality.

As much as Australia will try hard to be politicly correct (re Paulini / dress / body shape / whatever...), that much it will lose its integrity. If we are "not allowed" to tell our opinion, about really anything, and being censured into a "correct" way of expressions, we won't get very far. Being so touchy-feely, won't help anybody/anything. So, people - speak your mind, no matter how rudely you'll be branded as racists, chauvinists, in order to be censured. Freedom of speech! Paulini looked BAD in that tight dress. Paulini looked GOOD in that elegant dress last night. OK? (nobody mentioned anybody being fat or whatever). OK?

Dear Marcia Fan, On the weekend I heard a live interview with Marcia Hines on Fox FM. She said she wasn't impressed by Mark and Dicko's comments given the body image problems in Australia -(which the interviewer noted were getting worse) Marcia said she had a daughter and wouldn't like someone saying that sort of thing to her. Paulini should thank Mark and Dicko for not showing up in a similar outfit, later in the comp., when they are down to 4 or 3. Her outfits yesterday showed that she has come to her senses.

What's with all the Marcia lovin? Just cos she gets to play the easy role in the rating/voting manipulation called 'judging'! She has barely made any constructive comments, says the same thing every week.... And I think Holden's got guts and humility for standing up and making a fool of himself each week for channel ten.

Kinda OT, but did you see how nervous Mark looked during the ARIAs (when he and Dicko came out to present an award) - he looked like a terrified rabbit. What's with all the Marcia lovin? Just cos she gets to play the easy role in the rating/voting manipulation called 'judging'! She has barely made any constructive comments, says the same thing every week.... I agree with the Marcia part, but Holden is not much better. He's also damn repetitve with his 'hubba hubba', 'touchdown' and his other idiotic random psycho-babble. The only person who has been giving any constructive comments out there is Dicko. The other two are pretty much useless.
