This message goes to Dicko and Mark in relation to their comments to Paulini last night. Unfortunately their comments about her weight and choice of clothes is a reflection of the sad reality us gals deal with all the time. I think she looked great and both songs she sang sent shivers down my spine. She has a powerful voice and the ability to deliver a variety songs. Gals are ment to have curves and she was a knockout in that outfit. It would be awesome if next week she sang "Baby Got Back"!! You go girl!!!

No, I don't think she was a knockout in that outfit. She was looking cheap and tasteless. She has this absolutely incredible voice, maybe the best in the comp. but should have been more careful with her outfits. I hate Mark Holden, but unfortunately agreed with him last night. And with Dicko. You have to be honest, and admit that Paulini is not Beyonce Knowles!

Unfortunately Home Viewer, you - and most of Australia - are so busy being politically correct that you've missed the point entirely. There are two seperate issues here: one is Paulini's appearance in that gold frock, and the other is media perception. Dicko wasn't saying that Paulini isn't beautiful (she is), and he wasn't justifying the media crap that promotes skinny bodies as attractive. He was making the point that most media is extremely judgmental and will use any physical imperfection as fodder for their magazines. Paulini's choice of dress emphasised her imperfections - it was a criticism of her choice, not of her weight.
And frankly, I have had a gutful of people blaming "the media" for issues with body image. I too fight these battles every single day, but rather than blaming the big bad media for influencing poor, vulnerable me, I look inside because that's where it all starts. I'm no fan of the media, but rather than beating up stories on ACA, I just don't buy the magazines. (More money for chocolate that way!)

I agree with you galileo five. What i don't understand is why people insist on bagging dicko and Mark when they commented on Paulini's outfit because Paulini's strong enough to ignore and disregard what she doesn't need to hear. I would like to know what people think of John Farnham's public bagging of Mark which i think was uncalled for and pathetic

Dear Angel, Paulini is certainly strong enough to ignore Mark and Dicko's comments, but I am not too sure all the primary school age viewers and teenage girls out there are going to have that sort of resilience against similar comments. Mark and Dicko are modelling masculine behaviours to the male kids out there as well - I imagine lots of girls at school will be taunted by their male classmates now. Some celebrities and stars (Like Marcia) have the ability to be entertaining, but at the same time, they look at the bigger picture - they show personal integrity, and concern for others welfare. Unfortunately, many stars and celebrities are not capable of doing both things at once - Frags

Dear Frags, Firstly i would like to quote what Mark actually said "What's with what you're wearing?" Now, how does that relate to body image problems in pre-teen and teen aged youth? All it says is honey, I don't think the dress suits you. I do agree that Dicko was harsh but, not all of us can be as nice as Marsha. What i want to know is how people can include MArk's comments an bagg him for having a different oppinion

Frags and Angel, I have 11 years old daughter (I'm 31), and I am concerned that her watching the "idols" on tv, and watching Paulini in the tight sparkly sexy dress, will provoke confusion of "what the idols of the generation" are or should be wearing! She was confused that a nice girl like Paulini would allow herself to became a tastless sexy "idol", instead of showing her real talent and great voice and personality. It was a big disappointment to her, and a miserable reflection of society's superficial female stereotype acceptance, if you ask me. So, how this answers your comment Frags : f "Paulini is certainly strong enough to ignore Mark and Dicko's comments, but I am not too sure all the primary school age viewers and teenage girls out there are going to have that sort of resilience against similar comments...". Yes, I think Dicko's and Mark's comments are actually of great help!(if you don't fool yourself)

Maybe that could have been one of the points dicko and Mark were trying to make, that they would consider paulini to be "a nice girl" that looks good rather than "sexy". They were trying to get the point across that the dress wasn't appropriate. They are the judges and are entitled to their oppinion, maybe dicko should also take this into account before cutting down everyone who disagrees with him.

I have watched the show and endured the comments made by the judges, but last night I nearly threw up. They can be encouraging to a contestant but what they said to Guy was just vomit material. Besides, how do you think Shannon and Cosima felt after hearing "he was the best unsigned talent around" ?? Then what was said to Cosima was not needed. If she felt like giving up, I wouldn't blame her. Nothing like a bit of favourtism is there judges?

I agree with you re the judges comments of late. Am I mistaken? I waasn't aware that the show was called "Mark, Marcia & Dicko's Idol".....but Australian Idol! They are definitly talking up Guy at the expense of everyone else and trying to get him over the line. He missed plenty of notes on Sunday night as well....and the end of climb every mountain was a jumbled mess. Sorry Mark......I intend to stay in my tribe......you go Shannon!!!! No way I'm being told how to vote by a mob of washed up has beens.

Good for you LindieC.
They a have their strengths, they all have their weaknesses. It's all down to personal choice in the end and I'm sure you shouldn't let Guy's fans persuade you to vote for him just as you don't expect to persuade them to vote for Shannon.
I wonder if the 'over-enthusiasm' of the judges has any effect on public opinion. I probably agree that sometimes two of them get a little carried away but I doubt that they influence me.
They could ALL sit there and say that every performance was absolutely fabulous, I suppose or maybe say nothing at all.

i think it was better to hear it now than to hear those comments if/when she was the idol and hear it from the press in magazines etc.
it was for her own good. sometimes you have to be honest.
