It was Cle on Rove saying that a black woman wouldn't win australian idol (or something) and Mark was letting Paulini know that she was well on her way to proving that comment WRONG!

Really - I hope her comment wasn't just a case of sour grapes for her own demise. So she'd be referring to Paulini? - this whole competition is irrelevant in the long run - put it this way - whatever happened to the great Scott Cain! LOL - he's apparently doing air conditioning ads now. How have the mighty fallen. Cle's comment was nothing more than sour lemons - she wasn't good enough although she'd probably disagree.
It doesn't matter who is voted as Idol because I already know who the star is and that's simply Paulini. No one else comes close.

Cle doesn't come near to Paulini talent wise. She was a dance teacher, but I didn't think she showed us much dancing. It was her song choice that didn't get her through, not her colour. I think she was a lot more emotional than she pretended to be.

Cle was not making a bad comment towards Paulini but making a comment about how far she herself (Cle) thought she could go before the competition/elimination started. Rove asked her how long she thought she would last. Cle said she thought she would last longer, but not win- because she didn't think a "black girl" would win Australian Idol.
Ultimately, if Paulini doesn't win, it won't have to do with her being black. I mean, if Cosima doesn't win either, are they going to say a woman can't win Aust. Idol?

In all the idol competitions around the world hardly any women have won. I don't think any black woman have at all, so maybe Cle was making that comment based on fact.

Paulini's stunning, but I don't think she will win.
I think Cle made a good point and it's not about racism... more that Australia is conservative and would end up voting a conservative person as the winner (look at Big Brother). Cue Shannon or Rob.
Doesn't mean that Australia is racist against black people (hey, look at the top 10!)- just that it's more likely a white person will WIN the thing.
Besides, I respect Cle for making a bold statement in this era of PCness. Then again, I didn't hear the tone it was delivered in- if it was snarky, then goodbye respect...

She said it in a joking tone. She laughed, Rove laughed, the audience laughed.
It's been taken completely out of context.

I agree that Cle wasn't necessarily talking about racism- it could just be taken that way. She definitely could just be saying a majority vote could just be safe or conservative. They could vote for someone likeable and pleasing all around like Rob.
When she said it she wasn't snarky, but the studio audience did say "Oooooohhhh...."
Personally, I knew that it would be taken in different ways and really just wished she didn't say it. I knew it would be made a big deal of, similar (but not extreme) to the way when Kim made the joke on Big Brother Up Late.
But optimistically, I don't want the public to vote for safe over talented. I want Paulini, Guy, or Cosima to win because they are the best singers left.
