WAKE up Jeff, it's time for you to spend
your cash.
The Wiggles have topped BRW magazine's
annual entertainment rich list by earning $45
million for 2004.
The list ranks Australia's top 50
entertainers based on their income for the
previous year.
Last year the group came fifth, earning $14.2
million.
Actor Nicole Kidman topped the list last
year, but this year came second with $40
million.
Russell Crowe was a distant third, earning
$27 million.
Guy Sebastian and Shannon Noll proved
naysayers wrong and showed reality TV can pay
the bills, earning $2.1 million and $1.4
million respectively.
AC/DC may still be riding the Highway to
Hell, but with earnings of $18 million and
fourth spot on the list, they're far ahead
of Christian group the Newsboys, who earned
$3.8 million.
Gina Riley and Jane Turner, the brains behind
Kath & Kim, will be able to shop Fountain
Gate dry after making the list at No. 45,
with $1.5 million.
The Last Time may have been the name of John
Farnham's final tour, but it could also
refer to his presence in the top 10. He fell
from second spot with $24 million to No. 28
with $3.6 million.
This is also the first time an actor
hasn't made top spot on the list.
BRW deputy editor Robert Skeffington said the
secret to the success of The Wiggles and Hi-5
was their renewable audience.
"They're like any other number of
businesses, in expansion mode,"
Skeffington said.
"A great business advantage that they
have is that their market renews itself every
two or three years . . . as opposed to some
of the established acts who can't really
reinvent themselves."
