Australian Idol runner-up Anthony Callea has debuted at number one on the Australian chart this week with sales of just over 41,000 units. It is a far cry from the 140,000+ units shipped to stores which qualified it for double platinum accreditation.
However, Callea's self-titled album faired better in week one than Idol winner Casey Donovan who debuted at No. 2 with around 34,000 sales.
Both fell short of Guy Sebastian's debut in December 2003 with 163,000 units sold first week and Shannon Noll's debut in February 2004 with 131,000 units sold.
Callea's single 'Rain/Bridge Over Troubled Water' dropped from No. 1 to No. 5. after selling a further 6,200 units this week and bringing total sales for the single to around 37,000 units.
