I didnt think Guy sang off-key note when he sang 'Rainbow' in Climb Every Mountain it was suppose to sound like that, but Guy does have to be careful as sometimes he forgets to hold the mic close up to his mouth when hes caught up in a song and moving about, and the sound goes a bit quieter
all the world idol judges commplemented Guy on his vocal ability and natural charisma, just not the song choice, so shame that was all edited out

If the only fault Guy has done is ONE note, then I must say I'm pretty impressed. don't get me wrong, I love Guy (and I love his performance of C.E.M), but I'm stating that the note was a little off-key [glow=purple,2,300];D ;D MSP ;D ;D[/glow]

Hey Pop Tartlet
Glad you said that about the micropone because I too have noticed that. I am sure that is one of those things that comes with experience. I guess he gets so involved with his songs that sometimes he just misses the microphone a little bit.

OK here’s my thoughts on each performer in the World Idol competition, for this thread on 'keeping in tune' – the ones who DID sing out of tune have a • beside their name (to me) – however, note special comment on Kurt – I’d like to hear the track again.
•Alexander Klaws - Germany:
I stopped counting when he went off key 8 times, and just ‘rode it out’. Would like to hear him sing something else - to get that far in your own country, surely you can sing in tune.
Jamai Loman – Holland (Dutch):
The underestimated one of the night – great voice, Showed a lot of versatility in what he could do with his voice with this song and has the capacity to do a lot, go a long way.
Peter Evrand (Belgian)
Belted out a great rock tune, didn’t miss a note, good pitch – can go anywhere in the rock world with his appeal to those who love this style (and a lot do).
•Alex – Alicja Janosz (Poland):
Could not hold pitch throughout the song – am guessing lively pop is more her style. but her voice can certainly be worked with - Good to see someone so young with plenty of pluck – stood up to the judges.
•Heinz Winkler (South Africa) :
Should have the whole package, but went off key a number of times – by this time I was beginning to wonder if the sound was correctly placed so they could hear themselves. Once again, I would like to hear him sing other songs.
Diana Karazon (Pan-Arabic):
Sang in perfect tune – showed her lower and higher range, the control on low notes, the strength in high notes – brilliant. You had to turn it up to hear it all properly. It bugged me that the judges could not rate her voice – just because the style was different.
•Ryan Malcolm (Canada) :
Definitely has a magnificent voice – needs to work on the notes in his lower voice register – he waivered on those keys a few times.
Kelly Clarkson (America) :
Would like to hear her sing something else – but she certainly has a good voice.
Guy Sebastian (Australia)
No-one came near his capacity to sing. The trouble was the public was looking for something they were more familiar with. Many of the great singers, Aretha, Stevie Wonder, people who know how to sing R & B, hip hop etc, would have been screaming with joy at this fresh new voice, and would not understand why he did not win (well, maybe they would, they’ve been through it themselves). In fact, I’ve thought about this, if Stevie Wonder was an unknown and sang on that show – he wouldn’t have rated highly.
Will Young (UK) :
Did well, has a great voice, lost it on the treble ‘light my fire’ (slightly missed the beat) but made up for it with the treble ‘light it’ – that was perfect.
•Kurt Nilsen (Norway) :
Very enjoyable and easy to listen to – one note ‘slightly’ questionable mid song, then only seemed to miss it on the last note in the song, but that may have been the wind down, or he may have thought the mike was off. (So this one may not necessarily be correct, I’d like to hear the track again).
OK now you’ve heard all my opinions – go ahead and continue with yours – it’s interesting.

hmm....ok. i was watching him sing that at my relo's house and when he sang that note, we all cringed and were like "no!" [glow=white,2,300];D ;D MSP ;D ;D[/glow] yep, same thing at our houshold. Followed by my mum and dad saying how after that note the whole performance was screwed. I loved the performance heaps but to our ears that was a wrong note. Also when he had a cold in the week it was just him and shannon there was a bit in 'Ill be there' when he tried to sing in his higher register and it didn't sound to pleasent. No-ones perfect but ive seen a whole lotta guy and these are the only 2 times i've noticed faults. Not bad, not bad at all.

…… so my thoughts that those who sang out of tune were:
•Alexander Klaws – Germany •Alex – Alicja Janosz (Poland) •Heinz Winkler (South Africa) •Ryan Malcolm (Canada)
with the possibility of Kurt going out a bit, but I’d like to hear that one again. Having said that, World Idol did not show the best of all their voices – and to be fair, I’d like to hear each of them sing other songs.

Hehe, beeing a Norwegian I can tell you what the his music teacher told the local tabloid when asked what he recalled about Kurt in school, when asked after he won Norwegian Idol. The thing he remembered were that he blacked out the school with nails in the power outlet. He didn't get the top grade either, however today (that is half a year ago) he would have gotten the top grade, beyond all doubt, and he also said he had no idea how he could have missed him. Hehe, would like to see the teacher who would dare say otherwise now up here in Norway.

Yeah!! I got Alex, Ryan and Heinz For Alexander I was too busy being bamboozled by his performance... Kurt I was too busy being sad because there went Guy's chance at WI... I think Ryan can be excused for going off because he was trying to move around alot and perform more. Alex and Heinz, who just stood there, have no excuse at all. Particularly Alex... ouch... she belted that song for what it was worth. I'd love to hear her do an Avril song though. She'd be awesome at that! Jamai I agree.. he has a nice voice, but he chose a fairly quiet non-flashy song... then performed it without much feeling. He didn't deserve last though. I felt that Heinz also did a passionless performance for a song that had been released with so much emotion packed into it. I can only say that the 'hot' vote got him into 4th place. Kelly I thought went off with some of her trills, but she was sick that day and it must've been a surreal experience for her. Guy's "I'll be there" did contain quite a few off-notes, or perhaps they were deliberate key changes we weren't aware of... but the thing I responded to was the pure passion he put into that.... that's why it's one of my favourites

I think Alex really just needs to learn more english, and relax her accent a bit more (if that makes sense). She sort of reminded me a bit of Bjork, but her voice hasn't got as much texture. I think with practice, she will get much better and have a successful career

You could be right... I thought she was emphasising 'love him' too much, but it could be her accent coming through. She is very Bjork actually... and just as impulsive by the look of it.

This is quite interesting I was just thinking about this today. Seems like the world wanted something they could identify with. Not new and innovative. That is why everyone has gone for Kurt. I thought he was good on the show and he stood out amongst the others. I was desperately hoping for someone who would make me say "wow"but it did not happen. Guy was just too different and the song was changed too much for them to get it. It is a very beloved song and some would not appreciate the changes. My hubby does not like it all, the backing track in particular. I do happen to like it and I like people to try new things and experiment with songs. I also liked Jamai very much too I think his problem seemed to be lack of confidence and nerves. Kelly is not my type of singer but I can see she is talented I think she needs to develop her own style though and not just be a Whitney/Mariah clone. Its not different enough for me. Guy is also the type of singer who grows on you,I liked him at his first audition but he did not stand out then as a winner to me because there were too many in your face performers. He gradually grew on me each week. If he looked like Heinz he may have got nearer the top I think he appealed to the girls,a bit bland though.

You may or may not know me, but playing musical instruments, singing, arranging voices to harmonise is what I've done for years. Singing in tune is the most basic thing I look for to start in judging a person's voice, and the way a song is sung. My observationis this - 5 out of the 11 singers in the World Idol competition notably sang out of key. Which 5 were they? I think you may be surprised at who DIDN'T sing out of key, more than you will be surprised by who did sing out of key. LOL ! I hope U exclude semitones that was ment to be delivered as such. Kind regards
