Guy is yesterday's hero. He had his chance and blew it. Why did he have to mince around the stage wailing his version of a classic? We all wished him well. His personal opinion of his talents and appeal was much too high.
My guess is that he'll gradually vanish from sight and be overtaken by Paulini and Shannon - maybe even Cosima.

Gandalf,
Guy did not WAIL his song, he sung it with heart and feeling, and as for the arrangement, he made the song suit his voice and his personality. I've heard the original and I found it too dreary, I like Guy's version much better, he makes it more funky--just like his personality!!!
Guy doesn't think highly of himself-- he wants to use his talent to the full extent...but not in 'your' way-- use it to be the best, to be above everyone. No, Guy uses his talent to make people smile, dance, and feel his songs. He just wanted people to share his happiness through the song--his amazing vocal and arranging talents make this possible.

well said - even as Guy himself commented: "Its christmas and I wanted to bring some joy. Its really what the people at home get out of the performance"

It's unfortunate that some people can't see it your way, "guy rulz". I too believe that Guy is truly a genuine person who wants to share the joy he feels when he sings- and that he certainly does! I love his music, it's really uplifting and his genuine funky personality is really refreshing! it's like you said, he's not singing to be better than anyone, he's singing for the pure joy and passion. Good on him! Go the Fro!

I think that Guy didn't blow it at all. He represented us in a great way. He went from the A.Idol comp (which lasted months!) to recording an album in 5-6 days, and then going on a flight to London for W.Idol, coming back home for carols and then going back to W.Idol. He probably hasn't slept in a few months! If he can do all that with a smile on his face, I look up to him and think he's a great role model.

these "yesterdays hero" preaches really jocky for broken ribs in here. Shannon is yesterdays hero, paulinis yesterdays hero, cosimas yesterdays hero,. Shannon's single "what about me" snuck into stores unnoticed and fail to make top 40 in first week while guys album is number 1. People like you are the reason talent is wasted, someone goes a week without breaking a record or releasing a song theyre over, well you can "just get over it"

The Show World idol was NOT heavily advertised in America - that's why such a low proportion of its people voted.

WTF JARRAD? Maybe because Shannon's single hasn't been released into stores yet!!! I think you should stop making up crap jarrad. It's obvious you dont know anything about it. And all i can say is that it is obvious that guy isn't that appealing over the world. People are making excuses for him like that he wanted to sing for what the people at home are wanting to see. "Its really what the people at home get out of the performance" (as trish said in this thread and many others in different threads) I dont understand the logic here at all because if that were true then he would have received more votes if his performance was what the audience wanted to see and if it was all about what the audience got out of it. If it was then he would have received more votes, end of story.

I've seen more than a few Canadians posting (at their forum) about how charming Guy is. Perhaps it's a Canadian/Oz thing?
Several USAns & UKns have also posted how his performance stood out on a repeat viewing- but the US/Canadians/UKs were only given a 2 hour voting bracket... probably not long enough to review the show carefully and still vote enough. He was shown 2nd on most shows... lost in the fog of memory.
But yes, you're right... it was the wrong song choice for winning. I'll pull out the cliche and dust it off for you- winning isn't everything.
And please don't call yourself Gandalf. That is just wrong.
