GET set for a new modern-day pop queen. Courtney Act, of Australian Idol fame, has signed the dotted line with record company BMG, and will have a single – Rub Me Wrong – out soon.
Courtney Act hopes to send positive messages through her music.
Act told The Eye yesterday that her style would be a mix between Kylie and Cher, with a little bit of Bette Midler.
"I'm going to be a pop princess," she said. "I want to have shorter hot pants than Kylie, have more scandal than Madonna and a little less surgery than Cher."
Act, who recently saw Christina Aguilera in concert, said she was impressed by the messages the scantily clad singer put into her music, and wanted to do the same.
"Watching Christina, I realised that I had an opportunity to hopefully give some kids a message," she said.
"I could say to the different kids, it doesn't really matter that you are different."
Act has also signed on to the Australian Idol tour as the 13th member, as she didn't make the final 12.
"I'm like the Heather Locklear of the tour – special guest star – but I'm not a bitch," she said.
Act said her alter ego, Shane Jenek, was very excited about the recent developments but he had his work cut out.
"Shane and Courtney now have a bedroom each," she said.
"He has sort of taken over as Courtney's personal assistant."
If she becomes a sensation come Aria nomination time, we're not exactly sure what category she'll fit into.
Act joins Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll and Rob Mills as the only artists that BMG picked up from Australian Idol.
