Guy's run comes to end January 8, 2004 - 3:40PM It looks as if Guy Sebastian will be toppled on next week's ARIA chart. The Australian Idol's sales have dropped considerably this week according to the midweek figures from HMV. If Sebastian's trend continues, his album, Just As I Am, will fall from No. 1 next week after a four-week run. HMV has the title at No. 5, with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Evanescence, Delta Goodrem and Powderfinger all outselling Sebastian in the first half of this week. On this week's chart, Sebastian had a 76 per cent drop-off in sales and on current figures may sell under 10,000 units by the end of this week. Delta Goodrem is maintaining steady sales of Innocent Eyes while the big mover is Evanescence who will start their Australian tour in Brisbane this Saturday. By last Monday, Just As I Am had sold 345,991 units making it four times platinum. Delta Goodrem could quite possibly pass the million mark in sales this week. Innocent Eyes has sold 14 times platinum now in Australia. Undercovermusic/AAP www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/01/08/1073437399161.html

Now lucky fans can idolise Marcia By HEATHER LOW CHOY 08jan04 LAST year's TV smash hit Australian Idol did more than launch hot new talent Guy Sebastian; it also relaunched '70s disco diva Marcia Hines. As a judge on the television talent show, Hines won the admiration of a new generation of fans with her supportive comments and outpourings of heartfelt emotion. A sucker for eventual winner Guy Sebastian, she cried almost every time he performed. Hines's popularity saw her contribute to the chart-topping Australian Idol album and perform, to a rousing reception, at the Idol winner announcement concert. This weekend her reinvigorated career brings her to Hobart, where she will perform at Pop in the Park which is part of the Hobart Summer Festival. The event is at St David's Park on Sunday from 7.30pm. Gates will open at 6pm. Tickets are $10 for adults. Children under 12 who are accompanied by an adult will be admitted free. No children under 12 will be allowed entry without adult supervision. Hobart alderman Eric Hayes said ticket numbers had been limited to less than the normal patronage seen at Carols by Candlelight. But he encouraged concert patrons wanting a good vantage point near the stage to arrive early. The concert kicks off with a "Tasmanian Idyll" segment from 7.30pm until 8.15pm, featuring local talent. Hines and her band will be on stage between 8.45pm and 10pm. St David's Park will be closed from 3pm on Sunday to allow for preparations. Salamanca Place will be closed between Gladstone St and Davey St from 7am until midnight to provide a safe pedestrian area. www.themercury.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,8345570%255E3462,00.html
