Dicko deals with fame
From Sydney Confidential
December 12, 2003
AUSTRALIAN Idol judge Ian "Dicko" Dickson knew the show would make him famous.
But he had no idea what being famous would do to him.
"It's been bigger than I thought it could be, I was naive about fame and what it can do to you," he told Confidential yesterday as he had "last drinks" at Channel 10's Christmas party before flying out for World Idol in London with Guy Sebastian.
Also chewing the fat on the Ten studio rooftop was Secret Life's Gigi Edgely, White Collar Blue's Jodie Dry and the news and sports crew.
Dicko, just six months ago a humble BMG executive in need of a haircut, has become as famous as winner Guy Sebastian, mobbed by fans - his muppet hair apparently sexy to middle-aged women.
"It has been hard to deal with, but being back in the office doing what I do has really brought me back to earth," he said.
"That is saying something because after 20 years in an industry that develops fame, you'd think I'd be better equipped to handle it."
Dicko flies off today to get working with old pal Simon Cowell, the nasty judge of the UK series, for the World Idol Performance show - to air 7.30pm Boxing Day - and the World Idol, The Results - to air twice on January 2.
But the question is, who will be the loudmouth this round?
"The producers have an idea of what they want to do but I'm not going to do their thing, but just be the natural me and they can edit around that," he announced.
"Simon is a hell of a character who looks, acts and lives like James Bond - right down to the Aston Martin - so it'll be good catching up with him."
