As said elsewhere, Cole was a one-trick pony ... who was only average at the trick herself. That said, she probably did deserve to finish ahead of the fat fraulein and the sissified smurf.
Ricki-Lee was as close as Idol has gotten to the real deal, in my opinion.
True "real deals" don't enter karaoke competitions, so I wouldn't be holding my breath for one to be unearthed in the near future.

I can't understand why Coulter gets rated at all. Average singer with no moves.
The whole contest over-emphasises one aspect (pure singing ability, which isn't that marvellous in the calibre of people who enter, anyway) at the expense of the more important aspects like personality, personal charisma, showmanship, interestingness and so on.
The judges should be asking themselves which performers will people still be interested in having on their TV screens in 10 years. Callea and Donovan are youngsters with little or no personality. By the time the contest was over, we'd reached the bottom of what they had to offer.

Idol #2 just wasn't near Idol 1 in quality. Thought Coulter had a few moments where she sang quite well. As for the others most pretty limited.

We'd seen everything Cole had to offer weeks and weeks before she expired.
There was an edge to, and something behind, Coulter's voice that lifted her above other contestants who have had all the character polished out of their voices by too many singing lessons taught be people who never made it.
I disagree that she had no moves and she was no Dogface Donovan in the looks department.

Ricki-Lee had nothing to offer but a degree of pleasantness and a hefty whack of a Schappelle-style bogan-with-a-heart-of gold vibe.

The woman had soul. No-one who saw her performance of "Work It Out" could not see that.

That's right, and I hope we are going to have an Australian Idol Uncut this time around.
If I can get a look at the female contestants in the raw, I will have a much clearer idea of where l should be casting my vote.
Disclaimer: I thought I was replying to a post about BMG wrecking the contest, but this reply attached itself to a thing about RLC having soul. I repudiate the suggestion that she has soul.
