Jess you obviously have not looked in the mirror at your gorgeous self ! It was just so nice to have met you all - the lovely PM from joes who so kindly offered to 'hold my hand' to the Shangri-La coz I was a bit nervous about going myself was the start of a fabulous night. I am still so annoyed that I could not get to Sundays concert and hang out with you all again - it was a nice wedding though... We should petition Guy for another round of concerts - I just enjoyed myself so very much. Thank you all for being your lovely, kind, welcoming selves. You are all beautiful ;D

thanks for your comments. I was flaming mad after I first read it, but I have read the article again after aday and I think that he is trying to say some nice things about Guy, but he obviously wants him to move in another direction with the writing. I agree with MBN - Kryptonite is a cracker of a song.
This guy wrote about the Aus Idol COncert (which of course I saw to watch our lovely Guy) and he was actually very supportive of the growth that the idol finalists showed, and for the young talent that had emerged. He especially was impressed that Guy plated the piano for Angels. Overall I am inclined to give BErnard Zuel another chance - he ain't Paul Cashmere lets face it.
Of course, we love Guy and are sure that he will have a long and happy musical career ;D

Sorry if this has been posted. I have read many of Bernard Zuel's reports before and he is usually very balanced. A bit of a mixed bag here though.....

Guy Sebastian By Bernard Zuel December 6, 2004
Page Tools Email to a friend Printer format State Theatre, November 4
Even the most curmudgeonly of crusty old music types will tell you that Guy Sebastian can sing. He has a voice of sweetness, he hits the notes, he carries a tune.
He is also a friendly, winning stage performer, with an easy rapport with his audience, even if he doesn't really have anything to say to them for the moment.
Unlike Delta Goodrem, for example, who looked stiff and unconvincing in her brief ARIA Awards performance, Sebastian, backed by a seven-piece band, three backing vocalists and four dancers feels at home on stage with a microphone in his hand.
That he came to a singing career via an exploitative but brilliantly effective television program is neither here nor there. Singing careers have emerged from such unlikely starts as Playboy bunnies (Deborah Harry), tiny tots on a family-friendly talent show (Tina Arena), a cobbler's workshop (Peter Brocklehurst) and the occasional actor, model and music journalist (the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant).
What remains unanswered about Sebastian is whether he has what it takes to build a career from this start. What is still unclear is if that is to happen, on what he will build that career. As perverse as it may sound, being able to sing is not even close to being the most important factor. Many a career has lasted years with little genuine singing ability while many a very fine singer has found him or herself reduced to plying their trade in the anonymous Tuesday afternoon slot at a suburban RSL.
Sebastian's rabid and very fragrant audience (was there a run on J-Lo's Glow and Britney's Curious this week?) doesn't care of course. They knew all the words to the first album's songs, greeted the new album's songs with almost as much fervour and screamed themselves hoarse from beginning to end.
But the seeds of Sebastian's present and future problems is that he just doesn't have the songs to reach out beyond this core group, who came to him after all because of his TV fame, not his material, and who in a year or two will have grown up or grown bored and moved on to someone else (Casey Donovan maybe?).
Co-written new songs such as Out With My Baby, Kryptonite and Story of a Single Man and buy-ins such as Sweetest Berry are serviceable and tick all boxes in pop/R&B and sweet ballad genres but last no longer in your mind than it takes for the last note to fade. He doesn't have anything as catchy even as the much maligned Mercury 4's Every Little Step and he was made to look pedestrian by his support act, the half Beyonce/half Kelly Rowland star-in-the-making Jade MacRae, who does have some killer R&B tunes.
Don't write him off, for he is a personable performer, a decent singer and has a bigger fan base than most "cool" acts will ever have. But he better find some good songs quick smart.

I went to Sydney concert last night, also in silver seating , but went with my Mum and sister which was great. I was supposed to try and find the other OGs at the end but somehow got lost! SORRY GUYS!! : THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING CONCERT!! I have to agree with ss that he was just so incredible. I had high expectations, but also realised that Guy has been doing this for such a short time, but OH, ISN"T HE FABULOUS!!! I twas much much better than what I could have expected. I think that his voice is better than it ever has been before, and I think that he actually is more comfortable hitting the big notes than he was in idol. When he sang an impromptu Ribbon in the Sky I almost died I was so in heaven - it was truly beautiful. I really enjoyed the way he connected with the audience - he has such a friendly, easy way about him which instantly connects with people - but if course you know this already! I thought that Jade was very very good - I will certainly buy her album in February. BTW, those trying to find her website... she said it was jademacrae.net but this is not a site. There is a web page under construction at jademacrae.com which tells you that she is touring with Guy and to check his website out. Seeing her has inspired me to grow my hair long, get it permed into tight curls, and lose 10 kilos! What a gorgeous girl. From where I was sitting I could only see a couple of OGs - I could see joes and prinia in the third row on the left of the Frozone, and SoC, td, and angelicguy in the front row in front of prinia and joes. YOU GUYS MUST BE SO EXCITED THAT GUY TOOK YOUR FLOWERS!!! YAH!!! AND YAH FOR GARY PINTO WHO TOOK THEM OFF STAGE FOR GUY!!! I was telling my sister who you guys were and it was pretty exciting. There was this security guard standing at the front of the stage near SoC, ag and td who was jamming along with the music - knew all the words and some of Sheenia interpretive moves! And he was letting people go up to the stage to take photos during the concert. What a legend. He was entertaining us people up in the gods too! Well, all said that was a fantastic concert and I really enjoyed myself. My sister and I were going to come back for more tonight but I have a wedding to go to today - DAMN THESE INCONSIDERATE PEOPLE WHO GET MARRIED ON THE DAY GUY HAS HIS CONCERT!! Not happy, Jan. Can't wait to see all your lovely photos. Enjoy the concert tonight you lucky ducks!

Well I just got home from the Shangri-La get together and it was wonderful to meet some of the lovely OGs! Every one is just as sweet as they are on the boards, if not more so! The people there were BBG, Bo, Sheenia, Soc, angelicguy, td, SoakMeSuper, Frogo, joes, prinia, Nadzie, teetree, Monkey, The Spark, Bex, Kathryn10, Midsummer, arwen, and I think that is it, but so sorry if I forgot anyone!!! What a great night - I just want to thank everyone for being so lovely and friendly, but especially Reggie and Sheenia for all their hard work in organising a fabulous evening! Looking forward to Saturday's concert! Especially with the Kryptonite balls!
