'Fantasia's had more emotional depth and it comes purely from her background. It's an advantage that she's experienced more hardship in life because it comes out in her singing - whereas Diana's been pretty privileged, so it just lacks that rawness - plus Diana's style is more polished in general. Diana's sounds sort of professional, whereas Fantasia's is almost gutteral... and I love that.'
Now if I substitute Fantasia here for Shannon and Diana here for Guy...that is exactly how I feel about Shannon.

She is a typical middle class american chick. And both were professional. Happy for Fan...but I wish Diana the best too!!

Eek! Reggie, I wrote that, not Shan/Fan fan... I just said she's pretty privileged because of her enormous house and enormous double bed. I think she's still very down to earth... but she's had more possessions than Fantasia and endured less hardship, hence is privileged by comparison. Is 'being privileged' a big insult in the US? Cause it wasn't meant as an insult. I'm really, really putting my foot in my mouth yesterday/today.

superc, never NEVER gag yourself. Once you start censoring yourself, your true voice will never be heard and that's the point of these forums.. to hear from all sides whether you like it or not!!
Sometimes you will make a genuine boo boo ..and I don't know what it is you've done this time ;D ;D and no one is immune to that but don't let that stop you.

No that's the most intelligent thing I've heard on the topic so far. I do feel a bit sorry for diana though because the judges do favour fantasia in their comments. Although to be fair the the judges have said she is good it's just that they have also implied she is not as good as Fantasia, which is true. Also don't forget she didn't expect to get this far and has the adoration of an enourmous public which would be very encouraging- she won't come away thinking she's no good!
Diana is good and I'm glad she did so well- she deserves it. She is a highly marketable pakage and has time to further develop her abilities and work on her lower register. Her improvement throughout the series shows she is malleable and willing to work to improve her style which bodes well for future acheivement. However, she is simply not in the same calibre as Fantasia. I'm a HUGE guy fan but I'm beginning to think Simon is right and fantasia is the best of the idols thus far.
Super C's (?) comments about how well their voices will translate to disc in recording were interesting as well. I'm curious to see if the prediction is true. There are a lot of performers who don't sound as good on disc (and Diana's voice is probably more "pure" but there are also a lot of performers who are fantastic live and lose of the magic during recording. I'd like La Toya to release a classic album as well. Anyone know if that's on the cards?

I don't know if I'm over simplfying things, but do you think the judges are saying that Fantasia is better than Diana, because she is?? Within five seconds of her starting to sing in her heat of the top 32 (which was the first heat) I thought she was the winner, and this was without hearing anyone else. I think she offers a unique tone and just sounds really good. Sorry I don't have a musical background, but I know what I like. I don't think Diana is bad. My opinion is that mostly she is pleasantly competant, but occasionally really nails a song and sounds great. If I was listening to the radio and a song of hers came on, I wouldn't switch stations, but I also wouldn't even consider buying her CD. In my view Fantasia is a potential superstar, and Diana is OK, and the judges are responding to their performances in this manner. I think its really simple. Mark Yes , yes well said!! thats right.. Fantasia is an exceptional singer and for me Diana is an occasionally pleasant singer! sometimes she does a great job other times not so good, basically I could take it or leave it....but Fantasia is really, really good!!!! ;D

Ha, you try and hide behind objectivity in your previous responses then you make a comment like this. Shoot yourself in the foot why don't you!

I am so a fan of Fantasia.
She stood out almost from the start.
Give her 3 more years and she will be above incredible.
