No offence but I find American Idol very disappointing! Perhaps I keep comparing it to our version of the show and for a change, it seems to me as though the Australian product is so much better! The current crop of contestants on American Idol seem boring. I'm not trying to start anything here other than to express my opinion. The contestants seem to lack that certain "edge" or "spark" that was so masterfully displayed by Guy Sebastian and Kurt Nielssen. I'm sorry to say but I do not like American Idol at all. Perhaps the only good thing it has going for it is that it is so much better than Popstars (what a tragedy!) I have been thinking the same way . I try to watch the show everyweek, but I'm really not so attached or addicted to it. In fact my interest is waning a bit. I could not pinpoint anyone I would like to win. George had the most "edge" to me,but he's gone so I'm now lost. The other finalists have great voices.but have not affected me. Fantasia did sing Summertime so beautifully but on the whole something was quite missing. With Guy everything just comes together perfectly, his voice, personality, so much charisma.

I have lost interest in the show now. How come Edster - is it because Diana got booted out? Winner: Now that George has gone I'd say FANTASIA!

Hey Soc,
I like George. He has a good unique voice. He was my favourite...always smiling...cheerful. The rest are good, especially Latoya and Fantasia...but I just can't like them. It's hard to pin point. There are some people you like the moment you see them. I will still watch the show, but I don't care who wins now.

I dont know why u care so much about a AMerican Idol U cant vote so just shut up lyk........ watever anywayz at first my favs were JPL, Camille, Fantasia and George. (hav alwayz h8ed latoya) but l8ely i am such a big fan of Diana and am hoping dat she'll make it till the end... my reasons 4 dislyking Latoya is because i find her... so 'perfect' every performance by her is gr8 and she always gets good comments from the judges. but i would prefer sum1 that has grown throughout the competition or has something unique about them. Latoya, to me, is just plain and very boring. Go Diana!!! All da way!!!

But, look EVERYONE here has a right to give an opinion. And most people here are just really nice folks voicing their opinion!! I just think tha OZ idol is different. I said it before...different culture, different type of music and talent. And, c'mon THEY HAVE GUY!!! Geez!! So their standard is REALLY high!! GUY is a one in a million! And people care so much here about American Idol because we get it on TV here!!! Anyway, you should come back and post again so i can have another Yank to talk to!!!!! ;D (I am assuming from your post that u r a Yank!!)

I am going to maybe offend a alot of people here !! But what the hell... AI was better cos it had SHANNON !!!! He is one in a million too....maybe 18 or 20 miillion whatever Australian population is at the moment..... American Idol does not have variety in its search for contestants or maybe it is the judges' shortcomings for honing in for one particular 'brand' of singer that is considered saleable..what ever it is... all the girls that are left have too much of the sameness about them just different skin colour.....I do like Fantasia esp when she sang Summertime....gave me goose bumps the way Shannon did when he sang WAM.... yeah I pick my idol on my goosebump meter.... so I want her to win!!!! Go Girl!! And Guy one in a million? ?!! Perhaps in America... where there are a lot of singers like him....I don't see it or get it ....australian music has so much r nb, or hip hop/rap, soul, that sort of music and they are very American in essence, a lot of it comes to the Aussie charts and our young people grew up listening to it... they even talk like them.....there are people who like it and Guy does too so it influences his style of music..I am not saying it is bad...not at all..he is good at that style of music..... but what is so different from say an American import??? A good american import... Even his second video was so Americanised!! His novelty is that he is the Australian Idol who has an afro hairstyle..and sing american influenced music so people swoon at his feet!!! Go figure!! Shannon was so good for AI cos he invoked all that is good about Australian music... which many people may have forgotten in the takeover of our charts here...he provided the edge..... and he can sing and rock the house down...* go check out the yahoo groups concert reports * ... yeah yeah he did not win in the end but I always say it was the voting system here that sucked .... * go read previous posts* so mmm....... waiting for lots of @%#%&?(#@ thrown at me now!!! I better duck for cover!!!

Guy: - positive, pure message - sweet sound from male artist - beautiful arrangements he crafted himself- flawless melisma (though he does it a little too much in fast songs I admit) - is very cute - is an artist- gave me goosebumps with 'When Doves Cry', had me rocking to 'When I get you alone', made me fall in love with 'The way you look tonight'. - sings with subtle, sincere feeling ref. The Way You Look Tonight - is progressive in musical style- has always been about the musicThose are the reasons I voted for him and will continue to support him. The bolded ones are the reasons most important to me. Please note that 'sounding American' and 'having an afro' are not among them. Please don't demean Guy or his fans by using blanket statements for something you don't understand (being a fan of Guy). I know you feel that Shannon was ripped off. But equally, we feel Guy deserved it. Anyway, arguing about the past isn't really going to do anything now.. just buy another Shannon album to support him and forget the whole AI crown thing.

do you think perhaps the reason alot of people do not find themselves 'enthrawled' in American idol as much as we we were with aus idol is due to the lack of 'off screen' portrayal... for instance, here in aus for idol we had inside idol and aus idol extra (on Channel V) as well as magazine articles and 'exposes' and got to know the contestents off the stage, where as with American Idol all we get to see of them is their performances. I think being able to relate and connect with the contestants creates a greater interest in the show as you tend to care more about what happens. BUt what do I know.... it's 3:20 am an dI am incoherent at the best of times.
P.S George left so I don't know what to do with myself. Throw the chicks together and create another Bardot or better yet Scandalus for all I care.

I am glad they are both successful...sure am..
I shoulda highlight in my pos ' I don't get it' and I am trying to ...
positive pure message ---mm.. no man is perfect..that almost put him in that category...how is he going to live it down..
sweet -- yeah but I don't go for sweet voice in men or idols ...I prefer boys or church choirs for that....
cute- yeah if you like that sort of looks...I like Levi's better...
he has never given my goosebumps..when he came out for WDC.. I was giggling cos of his get up..the hair and glasses ..I thought was a tad ridiculous..clownish..same goes for that dressup or dressdown when he sang that Oh Oh song.. he kept pushing up his glasses....is it Beyonce? see I remember the outfit better than the song or the performance!!!!
and the only performance I liked was WAWW..at the third group show...and he sang it with only a piano.. simple and uncomplicated.....and then he went to WI and assasinate it....I cringed when he sang it that way...not progressive at all...trying to be too clever and people applaud him for "the beautiful arrangements" he makes...sometimes a tad too gimmicky with t he clothes and the other stuff.... or some people call it too much trilling for me..I did not like his audition song at all....at the end of it.... Dicko said it was the best voice he heard that day ... I though gee they must have a really bad run of singers that day....here I go offending Guy fans again....remember it is just an opinion.......
His style of music and me does not mix...like mixing oil and water..never the twain shall meet.....

Guest, I was not looking to argue with you. I was pointing out why I voted for him and why I like him. It's a personal preference and it's different from yours.
I am one of those Guy fans who doesn't think he is perfect, but I like how his message is positive and not just all about humping the next girl he sees.
You asked why Guy was so good to us and I told you. Leave it at that. None of us are picking apart your reasons for liking Shannon - we are showing some measure of respect for your taste - so extend the same courtesy to fans of other finalists.
You don't get it, so you're missing out. End of story.

UniqueShaz, I think that's the reason... I mean, we hardly know anything about the idols. George's departure made lots of people very upset (ie crying their eyes out upset). If we'd gotten Inside American Idol and gotten to know each contestant better, as well as heaps of media coverage as in the US, we'd care alot more. George's story would have been wonderful... he grew up in the Projects, a low income area, struggled his way to the top 100 or whatever, was bumped, then brought back into the top 32, was bumped again, got in as Simon's wildcard, then went up and up and up (til his asthma brought him down)... It would have been such a fairytale if he had won.

Also though, I have liked Diana from the start. Such a beautiful voice, she neva sounds like she's screeching. And at 16! God I hope she wins! I dont think it'll happen but god I hope she wins!
