Is it just me? Or is do the contestents seem so ... I don't know, overtly confident -- to the point where I start to dislike them for the way they are presenting themselves.
I don't remember any of the Australian Idol contestents exuding any type of Holier-than-Thou attitude when speaking before or after a performance -- none of this "I AM AMERICA'S IDOL! I KNOW I AM GOING TO WIN!" nonsense. It's very irritating.
I like George Huff very much because I haven't seen him exhibit this kind of off-putting behavior as of yet -- I also liked John Stevens for the same reason (however, although he is wonderfully cute and awkwardly sweet - I don't believe there should have been a place so far in the competition for him.)
I am also irritated by Randy. I don't like Randy because anyone who prides himself on using the word "AIIGHT" at every single chance he gets and screaming "YEAAAA-UH" whenever another African American performs, really isn't my cup of tea. It seems so contrived and fake.
Paula is like the Mark Holden of the bunch -- Apparently musically talented yet nothing but one or two hits to show for it and really in no position to be judging the height of the talent of some of these girls. Jennifer Hudson and LaToya London in particular easily put Paula Abdul's vocal range to shame. (Has anyone actually ever heard Paula's two dismal "hits"?)
However, in saying all that -- I don't claim to be talented, lol, it's easy for me to sit and judge -- but yeah, those are just some of the things that annoy me about American Idol.
Does anyone else want to add their niggling annoyance with the show?

I kind of like their host, too.

Well, while I quite like Simon for the most part, I feel that sometimes he acts unnecessarily rude to contestents for if no other reason, than to stir things up a little. I like it when he is blunt, direct and honest. His creative insults are contrived like the rest of the show, along with his excessive use of the word "abysmal" ... Ryan Seacreast is pretty cute, though And I'll keep watching for George!

Yes Unique Jess uve hit the nail on the head! That is the reason I just dont like Fantasia. Grrr her attitude just s*its me. Its like she thinks she is just so much better than everyone else. However, I didnt mind Jennifer but after reading, hearing and watching things since she left the show its really annoying me hat she cant accept she left the show and is fighting it and saying that she didnt deserve it. Id prefer it if everyone took the news and kept their dignity.
My favourites were no.1 JPL and Diana, Camille and George. None of these seemed to take for granted being on the show, or took it for granted. Even though JPL and Camille believed in themselves and their talent they took the news of their elimination in their stride and I admired that. I also know that if Diana or George win or make it to the finals they will be truly grateful to America and their fans... I think that thats a wonderful thing.

I like the contestants' confidence in themselves and their honesty in showing it, instead of false modesty. Of course it'd be better if they weren't so confident (to the point of arrogance) in the first place (ie George is confident in himself, but not overly so ), but you can't change who you are- at least they're not lying about it in order to win votes. Go Fantasia & George

Hmmmm. Firstly, Paula may not have hit the Aussie market in a big way but she had HUGE hits in America and alot more than two. Grammy, MTV awards..the whole bit. So I am not sure what you are talking about there. She hasn't, for sure, done anything musically for awhile.
And, attitude or not, FANTASIA can sing her tush off. She irritated me in the beginning...but I look past that now and just enjoy her performances. I am really trying to see it as a TALENT competition (guess that there is debate on that!! To me, I have decided it is a talent comp. and not a personality/talent comp. Just my opinion. Trying not to get caught up in the madness of judging someone's personality...especially when I don't know them boo-from-who! We all do it but I am trying to steer clear of that from now on!!). Latoya is just amazing and I never thought that she was anything except for a very talented young lady.
And, we Yanks just have different demeanors to you Aussies (if I were to generalize). We can be pretty over the top and can possess a "I rule the world" attitude...which definitely rubs folks the wrong way. Just psrt of our charm I suppose! HeHe!! SO try to look at it with a different eye...if you can. It is not gonna be like OZ idol..just different people, different attitudes, different culture and different talent. Maybe it will always irritate you..who knows!!

BTW, this is what JPL has to say about Fantasia : "Anyone who thinks that her attitude is a serious problem is wrong." Jon finds her to be a very playful and funny person, and feels that she's just joking and having fun.The rest of the interview is here: forums.enewszone.com/showthread.php?t=20635And Reggie, Australians hate a tall poppy (unless he/she is a sportsperson) and love an underdog.

SO try to look at it with a different eye...if you can. It is not gonna be like OZ idol..just different people, different attitudes, different culture and different talent. Maybe it will always irritate you..who knows!! Actually -- to be honest, the only way I remember Paula Abdul is by her messy affairs with to of The Jackson Family brother's (Randy Jackson [not AI Randy] and Jackie Jackson) and her choreography in the early to late 80's with Janet Jackson. I do remember a couple of her hits, but I never thought they were anything to write home about -- however, I guess that's entirely debateable! I don't question Fantasia's talent -- in fact, she's immensely talented. I've been known to give credit where it is most certainly due - and respectfully in this case as well. I beg to differ about her attitude, but that's just what I see on my TV so that's not to say she's a bad person at all. It just irritates me because it seems slightly over-inflated. As for the American demeanor; I have noticed that but I didn't want to offend anyone with assumative generalisations! lol. But hey, since you said it -- I'll concede. I don't particularly think that the self-confidence, over-inflated power that American's seem to possess (and I'm generalising so as not to offend anyone!) isn't a fault of the American people, but it all comes back to politics -- however, this is clearly not the place to get in to it! LOL!

reggieunlogged, I hope you don't think all Australians are like UniqueJess! We don't all go around putting other people down even if it's said in the "nicest possible way". Paula has every right to be a judge and to have earned her music industry success. The market is huge in your country and to stand out in any way takes confidence and pride, so good for her. Sometimes I wish Australians could be more proud our own and not think it a terrible quality if one of our stars has the audacity to take a bow. As for generalisations about your people (and even the state of politics in your country), I just don't think that's necessary. You are right you do have a different culture, a different society and different pressures. I will say Australians are proud of at least one thing and don't mind saying it! That is we like being Australians but we don't need to insult Americans to do that Oh and frankly your country is powerful, no need to inflate a fact. Now back to the contest. Fantasia amuses me with her attitude. I hope she does well because I tend to think of it as being sassy. LaToya is just pure class. She's my favourite. Attitude wise I like John the best. He looks so polite and although he's had some bad performances I quite liked Mandy. I don't know why he got beaten up over it. George wasn't so good the last two times out so I'll be watching to see how he goes with Gloria Estafan's music.

There is no need to pick an argument. I didn't start this thread with the intention of offending anyone or start a culture-bashing. I happen to love Americans' and their culture and I have spent quite some time over there. I'm entitled to my own opinion as is everyone else and I do not wish to start an argument with anyone I'm here for my love of Guy and to meet other Australian Idol fans, nothing else! Lastly these are my opinions, not facts and are completely harmless! Have a nice day, guys and hopefully no one else will take any offense to my posts!

For the most part (if I were to generalize again! Sorry!) I'd say that you all are pretty cool people!! Easy to be around and a wicked sense of humour!! I enjoy being here and the people here tremendously. Lastly, I am sorry...just a bit confused. You wrote, ...no need to inflate a fact". What fact did I inflate? Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post! thanks!

They were replying to my "over-inflation" remark. I feel slightly insulted. Oh well. No more opinion sharing for me then.

Listen, it is a forum and, like you, I should be able to share my opinion. You can't claim the right to be able to share your opinion and then get pissed off when people share their opinion! if you don't wanna share your opinion anymore..that is up to you. But please know that, as this is a forum for everybody, you should feel free to give your thoughts and opinions.
