I think it's easier for americans to get attached to the contestants then us. I think it's just because we're so used to the australian idol layout.

I've got to say that I like the daggy little skits they do. Hehehehe A major difference is that there's no Inside American Idol show to make us feel like we know the contestants.

i think aussie idol tugged at the heartstrings more, i seriously fell in love with most of the contestants and liked learning about them as much as seeing them perform every week with American Idol, there's less sentimentality and more of a business spin - the show is here to make a dollar, not to launch a career - that's just the bi-product. In the last two episodes, Ryan made some comments that really suprised me 1. something along the lines of, "the person leaving tonight we'll probably never hear about again - c'mon, does anyone remember [insert some name here]. See?" 2. When Camille got voted off, he said, "As the contestants leave here, they go home and try to somehow make it in this business...what advice can we possibly give them?" it made me realise that yeah, a lot of people can sing, a lot of people have talent, but only a select bunch ever become super successful - the majority will struggle. I think American Idol is more aware of this than Aussie Idol but i love aussie idol more all the same

Odd thing is, I prefer American Idol! Maybe because I didnt get interested in Aussie Idol until about the Levi leaving mark and with American Idol..I've watched all the episodes.

I must say though that AusIdol had more variety- we had Guy the smooth r&b crooner, Shan the Aussie rocker, Cosima the Celine-like diva, Paulini the soul diva, and ... Millsy ;D.
Four of the remaining AmIdol girls are balladic belters. Fantasia would be among them if not for her distinctive voice. John is the only soothing one left, so even though he's not that great, I hope he stays for a while.

John is the only soothing one left, so even though he's not that great, I hope he stays for a while. Can't agree more. These are my thoughts exactly. The more I think about it the more I realise how good we had it (if I'd only watched it! - but rescued by Raspberry . What's more our last Idols kept growing each week and they rarely missed a note either (unlike John Stevens on both counts). The interpretation of the songs was better too. Am I seeing things that weren't there?... I am not seeing this on Am Idol. I find the Am Idol girls just belt out songs one after the other. It is becoming monotonous to me. Celine Dion doesn't do that. She has dynamics and uses it. Why don't they? And the songs they pick are tuneless (I didn't know Manilow wrote any tuneless songs but they found some). Our girls sang top tuneful songs and put their own spin on them. Some songs were fast, others slow, sometimes they sang sweetly, other times they were belted out. I really think they did a fantastic job. And our guys... well what can I say... no comparison really. George is really lovely and has a nice even great voice but he is not always consistant. He hasn't really grown with the show either. And John isn't really ready for the show yet. He needs to be older, more mature and his voice stronger. But I don't know if the Americans would see it that way. Who knows what they are thinking or the "world" for that matter - voting Guy 7th (I'll never forgive them). I don't get it?! Oh and how come Aust Idol got such good competitors when our Popstars and previous Popstars shows never got this callibre of contestants. Or was it the format that helped them develop and grow that made the difference?
