I liked the show, but one thing that REALLY got to me about the judges was their complete and utter lack of respect to the bad contestants. Im all for them telling the bad ppl how bad they were AFTER the performance as it has to be said but when Simon and Randy were constantly LAUGHING throughout bad performances I thout that was the rudest thing I have ever seen. They can't be serious if they are going to sit the and laugh throghout it all...it was terrible! They should realise that its peoples dreams they are messing with here and if they want to shatter them (which, granted, needs to be done for a lot of them) then at least wait till the performance has finished for god sake.

I think they are trying to do something a bit different this year to boost ratings. Focusing on all of the bad contestants. Keep watching....Phew!!

Maggie the same was done on oz idol to the bad contestants. And in my opinion the american contestants would need a rocket up there jacksy to convince them they were not good enough. Hardly any of them walked away saying oh well I guess I am not good enough, thats my dream shattered. They all seemed even more determined to make a go of it. Surely if someones dream is to sing and obviously they can't sing then they do need to be told "nope your hopeless". It is not a dream that is achievable if you do not have a good voice. No amount of voice training is going to work. Best advice is if you want to be famous find another way to achieve that dream, but no don't give up.

Yes, I thought the laughing was really bad. And at least Simon Cowell kept a straight face most of the time-that Randy guy looked like he wasn't even trying to help himself. I'm amazed the contestants manage to carry on singing when it's going on.

Its just so rude to laugh when someone is ptting themselves out there and giving something a go. [qoute]I'm amazed the contestants manage to carry on singing when it's going on.[/quote] ditto

I agree with you Mo. I would have liked to have seen more of the people that got in. At one point I thought I blinked and I missed something when they showed that girl with the short red/pink hair and the next thing they were telling her she made it in and we weren't shown her singing. It was entertaining, but it seemed kind of like Top Worst Auditions at times. As funny as it was, it was also sad to see how oblivious they were to how bad they actually sounded. Especially that one girl who did a rendition of Flashdance, with her friend still saying how good she was. i actually cudnt beleive they didnt show the red head gurl sing

When watching the poor auditioners, I wondered if some of these people have actually listened to themselves sing at any time, or have sung to any of their family or friends and asked for constructive feedback. (Maybe they have and their families and friends have been too polite to tell them how bad they sound, or they didn't believe them anyway even if they were told they couldn't sing). And do some of these people even realise it is a singing competition? The Asian military guy who talked, and the Donald Duck impersonator - why were they even there?
I agree with all of the above posts, and particularly can't believe the high level of self-confidence (I would go as far as arrogance) some of these people actually have. I think it's appalling. The guy that cried towards the end of the show honestly couldn't believe the judges had rejected him, even though anyone with hearing ability could tell he had no singing talent.
I did like red-haired guy though who first did the Dean Martin impersonation before demonstrating he did have a voice with that good old song The Way You Look Tonight. (Maybe it just made me think of Guy)? I also thought the 16yo girl Leah from Bulgaria was good, and Fantasia (like Macy Gray) sounded good too. The guy Michael who sang for the pope was okay. I really liked the Scootergirl's personality. She relaxed a bit more than the others, and had a good sense of humour I thought.
I quite liked the show, but I agree it is different from Australian Idol. Some of those American people really don't like taking NO for an answer. Their contestants are ruder than ours, and their judges are ruder than ours too, cracking up while people are trying out.
Cherub.

I reckon our own Dicko is better than Simon. Simon says the same thing over and over again "That was painful." That was horrendous" etc etc
At least dicko comes up with good lines
;D

Um, well the Donald Duck guy was cool. It reminded me of that dude who won that 'Unforgettable' thing.
I didn't think much of the judges. The lady was sorta nice and she looked pretty but Simon and the other guy were losers. Or, but a couple of the competitors were gr8. Though I'm getting a lil bored of it all. I only watched about the last 10 minutes of it. And I'm not gonna see it on Tues coz I'm off to see Lord of the Rings - (finally!) and can't b bothered to record it coz it's supposed to be about a storm and the lady judge goin for a walk.

Yeah, of course it's rude to laugh when people are auditioning. But remember the show is seriously edited and the judges are trying to make decisions on who to send through to hollywood and they get these people come in who are just utterly hopeless. They go through days of this, it must get sooooo frustrating! And some of those crap auditioners came after outstanding singers so when u compare them to the previous entrant it must be quite hilarious. Like I said, it is so rude to act like that in front of these people who truly believe they have talent, but even our wonderful Marcia laughed during a particularly horrible audition (remember?) so cut em some slack aye
