A wake up call to the complacent yeah? That's how I see it. You're referring to poverty stricken peoples -- that isn't a natural disaster - it is because of people's IGNORANCE that these people are left to starve.
This tsunami tragedy on the other hand is a freak happening totally out of our hands.
I see ur point Dave, though I dont dig it.

While I'm happy about the outpouring of assistance, I do wonder why the sudden assistance when the humanitarian need was EXACTLY the same on December 25, before the Tsunami occured. BEFORE this disaster we had like a billion or so of the world's inhabitants in just as much need as the people left in need by this disaster. In fact those billion were, and now are, in more need than the people affected by this disaster, starving and afflicted by disease. Suddenly there's an outpouring of assistance towards a few hundred thousand people, giving one the impression that people were totally ignorant of the major humanitarian needs present before this tragic event. The challenge for the world now is to keep giving AFTER people affected by this event receive assistance. Because even if the problem is removed, there's still one billion people starving and homeless. Vigils are good, but should have been started BEFORE this event. People are ALWAYS starving and homeless around the world. Has everyone forgotten this? Hey David, Look, I can't answer any of your questions as to what hasn't been done. What I know for sure is that we all face a great challenge. I want to face that challenge by stepping up to the plate. I don't know what to say to you. I just know that I feel this to the core of my being SO VERY STRONGLY. So, I am just going to do what I can do. Will you help me? Bless you David. Peace, Reggie

Reggie my little love.
I have only one comment to make here, really.
That with such a sudden disaster of this magnitude - if its not fixed quickly, many of these countries will go down with a thud.
Its like a old bicycle tyre - gets a lot of slow leaks, perhaps even large ones, and we keep patching up, and patching up - but a gigantic one of this proportion - and if we can't slap a patch big enough and quickly enough - who's to say it can't take the whole tyre with it. And we haven't got a new one.

And we haven't got a new one. It only takes one seed to grow a forest. I grew up in a community where it was given that YOU ARE YOUR BROTHER'S KEEPER. Where the is strife there is kindness and compassion. Where there is evil there is goodness. Where there is dire need there is hope. I believe in the POWER OF PRAYER. I believe in the promise of a new glorious day. I BELIEVE THAT WE CAN EFFECTIVELY HELP THOSE IN NEED TO LIVE TO SEE A NEW AND BRIGHTER FUTURE. Even if it is only ONE CHILD. "Reach out and touch somebody's hand. Make this place a better world if you can." - words from an African-American Gospel Peace, Regina PS Prinia, I will be there Monday morning. I am looking forward to the event so much. Betta be some good ol rockin and rollin Gosple singin!! I'll bring my Gospel CD's with me that I got for XMAS!! YAH!!

The Legend of the Starfish
A vacationing businessman was walking along a beach when he saw a young boy. Along the shore were many starfish that had been washed up by the tide and were sure to die before the tide returned. The boy was walked slowly along the shore and occasionally reached down and tossed the beached starfish back into the ocean. The businessman, hoping to teach the boy a little lesson in common sense, walked up to the boy and said, "I have been watching what you are doing, son. You have a good heart, and I know you mean well, but do you realize how many beaches there are around here and how many starfish are dying on every beach every day. Surely such an industrious and kind hearted boy such as yourself could find something better to do with your time. Do you really think that what you are doing is going to make a difference?" The boy looked up at the man, and then he looked down at a starfish by his feet. He picked up the starfish, and as he gently tossed it back into the ocean, he said, "It makes a difference to that one."

Yes, David, that's all well and good - there are also causes for homeless people. They're called shelters. And over here in Australia there is no reason for anyone to be without money for food or shelter because we have a very generous welfare scheme.
This time, we are talking about Tsunami. We are trying to help THESE particular victims. I'm sure all of us have helped other causes in the past. I give regularly to children's foundations. I used to give to world vision and so on and so forth.
This time I would like to do something to help Tsunami victims. It is as close to home as anything you have mentioned above.

Absolutely brilliant, Reggie - while I cannot attend in Brissy, I'd love to do something re kits so will I just contact Ambs about that?
If that gets too complicated I'd rather give a straight out donation - whatever is the simplest most efficient way of getting help to the victims is what counts.

Reg, such a wonderful idea to do this. Thank you so much for organising it and contributing so much of your time and effort.
I would love to help and whilst unfortunately can't offer my house I would be more than happy to offer my assistance and time on the day. Hopefully someone else from Melbourne can offer somewhere for everyone to meet. I will help all I can.
As a lot of Melbourne people are going to Infusions maybe we could do it earlier in the day. Perhaps a couple of hours in the early afternoon or morning?
