We arrived in Brisbane on November 10th. As soon as I saw the coastline from the plane I got this shiver of excitement just thinking that I was on the same piece of land as Guy (albeit a huge piece of land!)
On the Saturday before the GC concert, Prinia had organised a lunch at her place so I could meet some fellow OGs. I got a little surprise to take to it by taking my Yahoo t-shirt to a cake shop and asking them if they could decorate a cake with the same Fro siggy that was on it and they made a really good job of it!
I met Prinia, Joes, Betheo and MaybeNext and we had a lovely time with Guy videos playing on the big TV screen.
I know everyone says this but it's true - you feel like you've known the other OGs for ever and they are all such lovely and generous people! We gossiped about Guy for ages - absolute heaven to talk with other people just as enamoured if not more so than me!
My mother came too, and I don't think she knew what she was letting herself in for! Actually, because I don't know any other really besotted Guy fans in ChCh, so don't talk about it much, I think it came as a bit of a shock to her and my husband to realise the extent of my obsession!
On Monday I met up with Prinia, MaybeNext, Joes, Hairbear, Monkey (glad those last two weren't infested as I couldn't find any honey or banana flavoured Vermox to bring with me ;D) TD and some Yahoo people to go to the Frozone.
Someone in a previous post said there was a woman in a Yahoo t-shirt on the news that night - well that was me !!! I was taken totally by surprise when MaybeNext dragged me off to talk to someone because I'd come over from NZ for the concert, and it turned out to be a TV reporter!!! All I can remember him asking me was what was it about Guy that made me come all that way to see him and I said because he's such a lovely person as well as being a wonderful singer. I wish I could have thought of something more scintilating to say to give Guy a good plug but I felt quite dumbstruck and embarassed Thank goodness no-one but Guy fans knew me there!!!
Other people have wriitten about the Frozone so I won't say too much about it except that I got to ask Guy a question. I had so many I wanted to ask but managed to bring in everything while still only asking him one actual question.
The guy with the mic introduced me as Wendy from NZ and when I stood up with my Yahoo shirt on, Guy said I see you're part of the Yahoo Army and I said Yes, Stephi (from Yahoo) and I are your NZ fans and he said Oh yes, I know! Whether he does or he was just being polite, I don't know but you can't help loving the darling!
Then he started talking (I couldn't tell you what about now!) and he went on for ages and I'm standing there thinking will I ever get to ask my question or has he forgotten about it? I didn't mind because Iwas quite happy to stand there and feast my eyes but eventually I did get to ask him if he was going to release his album in the US. I can't remember what he said (it wasn't really my question!), then I said to him that Monkey (who was sitting with me) and I had stories in his biography and we hoped that he would read them. He said he hadn't yet but he would get round to it then it was over.
It was an extra little blessing to be able to speak to him like that, I was on such a high!
I'll continue this saga in another post.
