Can someone explain to me why it's okay to tell Courtney that he's overweights, but no-one says that to Casey, who is quite obviously bigger than him? Is it okay to mess with guys self-image and self-esteem but not girl's? Are we too scared after the Paulini thing last year?
And how can we say that Casey is a healthy role model for young girls when we are constantly told that we are an obese nation that needs to change - shouldn't our role models reflect healthy diet and exercise habbits?
And yes - I would feel the same way of Casey was unhealthily underweight too.
Explain it to me kiddos, cause I just don't get it.

courtney is alot older than casey and they find to be a health concern for him. i see your point with casey but she is younger and she has more time than coutney to loose weight. its more of a concern with courtney because during one performance he was taking too many breaths and he cant do that in concert so its unfair to both. also and i just thought of it that its alot easier to get on a guy about his weight on national television than a female lets not forget paulini

Caseys weight has been talked about far more than Courtneys....if you go to the idol forums and bought mags, you would realise that....some ppl think that its never even mentioned, and its just been suddenly discovered: Casey doesnt go on about her weight but Courtney has brought it up quite a few times himself, so the media had published articles, even before Dicko said anything that time Dicko said he spent 5 minutes talking to courtney about it on live tv and the producers didnt need more time taken up..plus courtney performed before casey and casey was actually listening to the advice..

Cool, both of you guys are making sense - I still think it's a little unequal, but I'm not an avid follower of Idol so I missed a lot of what was said and what happened.

hey i think it's wise the judges havnt brought up casey's weight on national television - it's obvious - she is 16. they better not go there! imagine the uproar it would cause?
I do agree with your comments though Serena. but in Caseys' case - she needs to lose weight, yes, shux i think the whole nation needs to! but in this context... naaah lets just not go there judges (dicko esp! )

I think any remarks to ANYONE (male or female) about these types of subject matters in a public forum is not acceptable. These things speak to one's self image. Why would you want someone talkin about it in front of everyone...it is hard enuf dealing with it privately. basically, it is no one's business. They could have spoken to him about it privately.

we must also remeber dicko said it last year he is under contract to say all comments good or bad on camera whoever he voices them too is a bit unfortunate. i mean weve definitely seen the bashing here on weight. simon attacked basically the whole second season of american idol and trust me michelle mcmanus didnt have an easy time either.
there is a big box on celebrity image that says they have to be skinny or in shape. which isnt the case. my moms a big girl and i think she is one of the most beautiful women i know.

Don't care if he is under contract to say all comments good or bad on camera. If that is the case....then he should have left to up to someone else (not under contract) to say these type of weight remarks...in private to whoever. Sure they will have ta hear such criticisms from masses of people, but to hear them in that arena from someone who is supposed ta be helpin ya....nope...not on!! Imagine someone who works with a supa dupa star tellin a reporter in an interview "Yea, Ms. Star has a wonderful voice but we all think that she is too fat." Yep, right!! Save it for a private conversation. Issue goes too much to self image. I am not saying don't talk about it...just betta left said in private.

Hopefully you're young too because by the sounds of it you will needa few years to LOSE the basic errors in your vocabulary.

"i see your point with casey but she is younger and she has more time than coutney to loose weight." Why do you think that, with Casey being younger than Courtney, she has more time to lose weight? If Courtney chooses to lose weight, he doesn't have to be young to do it, a lot of stars are losing weight and that they are all older than 16 yrs old.

It's not okay to discuss anyone's weight, especially in front of the nation...but Courtney being an articulate fellow handled it superbly. The judges know that Casey does not cope well with confronting situations on TV so therefore have spared her the unpleasantness. I think that was nice of them and the way it should be. Her weight is her business, nobody knows how she feels inside and ultimately it will be up to her, when or if she's ready to to something about it. Overweight people know they are overweight, they don't need others to point it out or make fun of them! Besides her size has nothing ot do with her talent!

i totally think it's stupid. everyone's like, you should accept people for who they are and stuff. e.g. casey being fat etc. but the fact is, i don't think it's as simple as casey being fat. i think the correct term is obesity. with obesity comes diseases that we all hear about. is this the image we really want to send out? saying that its OK to be obsese and get heart disease and die early? it's an actual fact that australians are getting too fat, and with this 'its ok to be fat' attitude, i'm not sure we're heading in the right direction.
yeah you say that she can lose weight, but then, casey would be changing her image, which she said she wouldn't
so either way, its just frustrating to think about.
