.. why can't u get it and accept the facts the prayer is the best selling single... Because you have given us no reference, quote or link to a reputable source. Can you do some homework please? Can't imagine why we don't take your word for it? quack quack yadda yadda ...especially with this level of debate.. The Prayer will get the 2005 ARIA for the highest selling Austaralian single almost for sure. So Congrats to Anthony for that great achievement. And like I said it may well surpass ABMH if BMG press 5P. Quite a high probablity of that happening. Looking forward to hearing The Prayer at the Aust Day Concert.

MaybeNext everything you said, I completely agree with!
They are focussing and running on Guys "Idol" name, I mean some people still refer to him as the Australian Idol? Huh?! While I understand he will always been known as Australia's FIRST Idol which is absolutely fantastic and is such an amazing achievement, he IS a musician and artist in his own right now and has proved himself immensely but the promoters aren't focussing in on this... I can understand how alot of his big fans get quite frustrated with this whole issue...
I couldn't agree with you more about what you said in relation to the promotional ads for Guy's album. This was along the lines of what I was thinking also. They should play snippets of some of the songs from his album, not the ones which have already been released. The public are not being exposed to the versatility and quality of songs this album possesses. While Out With My Baby received a bit of publicity and promotion, let me repeat A BIT (hence it reaching and debuting at number #1 due to people being exposed to the song, imagine if it received the promotion certain artists in Australia receive) it isn’t a big indication as to what style this CD possesses, it’s just one song… And while shining on the lack of promotion, Kryptonite, which is such a beautiful and great song, failed to reach the top ten if I’m correct and so many people like that song? It is very hard to understand…
When they HAPPEN to promote Beautiful Life, they play snippets of Out With My Baby and Kryptonite. I’m speaking for the general public here and it is good for people here to hear an unbiased opinion as I’m not a massive Guy fan. People have already heard these songs, they aren't going to be enticed to buy the CD with songs they have already heard, people aren’t to cough up $20-$30 that easily… They want to hear a bit of unreleased material. This makes the viewer or potential buyer think hey those songs sounded alright I’d like to hear them again or I’d like to hear more of that CD… His promotional ads and promotion in general aren’t doing either of these…<br> I think they should also, not necessarily play on, but show a little of how he is just such a wholesome, cool, funny, down to earth kinda guy. I mean seriously, Guy appeals to a lot of people, and most importantly, to both guys and girls… Guys think he is a cool bloke with a great voice and girls think he is sweet and cute with beautiful and funky music, I mean what else do his promotional team and record company want? That just tops off the complete package that Guy possesses.
I hope they can turn this around for Guy, which I’m sure they can, and I really do hope Anthony isn’t pushed down this road either because the further it is prolonged, the harder its going to be to turn around…

Oh and before I forget… Allie, notice what I mentioned in a post earlier, how there a certain teeny popper Anthony fans who are ruining it for other people, well sorry to say it but your one of them. It is your constant, sorry to put it like this, bitching and single mindedness that are very soon going to give us Anthony fans a bad name. If he only knew what some (cough cough YOU cough cough) of his fans were like… Is your vision impaired or can you just not read (no offence what so ever to vision impaired people or people who cannot read properly), no one here is bagging out Anthony. We are very happy and proud of Anthony, he has achieved so much already. We’re just talking about how certain idols happen to be promoted after Australian Idol is finished, gees… That’s heaps good that Anthony is performing on the Australia Day Eve thing! Yay! I’m really looking forward to that Oh and also, what would you know about who Casey’s fans like or not… your obviously not one of them since you continue to bag her out and constantly compare her to Anthony… they are two totally different artists with different styles and abilities who happen to be very close friends. Seriously, grow up, get over yourself, and stop ruining it for the sane Anthony fans...

You haven't done any homework so I have. Here are the news releases for Guy’s record when he broke it: Records for Australian Idol's top Guy Sun Herald 02dec03 “Sebastian's release has also recorded the highest first week single sales for a debut artist. www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,8036380%5E662,00.htm ------ Guy breaking records as ''Angels'' debuts at #1 BMG release 02Dec03 Guy’s single has already been certified TRIPLE PLATINUM, with over 210,000 copies shipped to record stores around the country. After only 7 days in store, the number of copies sold (128,000 according to ARIAnet data) makes Guy Sebastian’s ‘Angels Brought Me Here’ the FASTEST SELLING AUSTRALIAN SINGLE IN ARIANET CHART HISTORY, the SECOND HIGHEST FIRST WEEK SINGLE SALES EVER (second only to Elton John’s Princess Diana tribute ‘Candle in The Wind’) and the HIGHEST FIRST WEEK SINGLE SALES FOR A DEBUT ARTIST. [Their emphasis] www.bmg.com.au/news,conmap,32061 ----- Malaysian-born ‘Aussie Idol’ tops charts 02Dec03 “Sebastian's first song became the fastest-selling single in chart history when it sold 128,000 copies after only seven days, BMG Australia said. Sebastian's release has also recorded the highest first week single sales for a debut artiste.”<br>http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2003/12/3/nation/6830095&sec=nation ----- "New Kid on the Block" Rolling Stone Magazine Dec03 “It's a Monday afternoon, the start of December 2003, and Guy Sebatian's debut single "Angels Brought Me Here", enters the charts at Number One. In it's first week of release, it sold 128 000 copies. That's a record for an Australian single. Only Elton John's Princess Diana tribute, 1997's "Candle in the Wind", sold faster.”<br> Now I have found these for Anthony: This article by Cashmere contradicts the latter one which declared him the winner. Fans Feel Ripped Off Over Premature Anthony Callea Release by Paul Cashmere 21 December 2004 “The result was that Callea ended up with three days of sales which counted towards this weeks chart. The half week of sales was enough for him to debut at number one on the Australian chart…” www.undercover.com.au/news/2004/dec04/20041221_anthonycallea.htmlDid Anthony get #1 that week or not? If so then it is his first week of sales. Anthony Beats Guy (or words to that effect) Undercover News Cashmere (can’t find the link – it isn’t in the news section…?!) ------- When this news article came out I was one of the first to congratulate Anthony on his new record. Then I awaited the news breaks but there were none. This was the only report made of this newsworthy event. So, needless to say I became just a bit suspicious (knowing Cashmere’s writing style). The only conclusion I can come to is that Cashmere is incorrect. His statistics are correct but he has read them wrongly. He has included figures from 2 different weeks of sales, or alternatively ignored the “first” week of sales. Neither are legitimate. But as I have said, please correct me if I am wrong. But prove it……!!!

Maybe this answers your question:
Anthony Callea Premature Sales Announcement
by Paul Cashmere
29 January 2005
According to Anthony Callea's website, 'The Prayer' is now the highest selling Australian single of all time. Not quite.
The Prayer has done well but is it nowhere near becoming the biggest selling Australian single ever.
'Angels Brought Me Here' had sold about 303,000 units while in the Top 40. 'The Prayer' is currently around 260,000 mark.
The question of sales can also be debated also as a question of 'units sold versus population'. In 1968, John Farnham had the biggest Australian selling single of all-time with 'Sadie The Cleaning Lady'. It sold 180,000 units that year but back then the Australian population was only 12 million.
On a per capita basis, the Callea single has sold the equivalent of 155,000 for the 1968 population and Farnham's 'Sadie' has sold the equivalent of 300,000 with today's population factored in.
A debate continues about whether that honor should go to Austen Tayshus 'Australiana' or Kylie Minogue 'The Locomotion'. Unfortunately, there has been no industry standard audit of sales that goes back that far.
Calling the winner from an international perspective also opens up the field. You can add in Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John and Men At Work into that battle. All three have had individual singles which sold in the millions worldwide.
Anthony Callea does not have the biggest selling Australian single of all time, but that's not to say he hasn't done well. He has certainly done a lot better than Idol winner Casey Donovan.

Angles Brought Me Here shits on The Prayer. For starters it is a cover song. ABMH is not guys song but it is still an original tune!
I hate that they havent promoted Guy on his second album cos he would still be as massive as his first record if they promoted him. Shannon gets the shit promoted out of him, and i like him, but Guy is so much better. Shannon is touring the shit out of that album coz he knows his second album wont do nothing just like Guys 2nd one hasnt. Shannons first album is a manufactired album just like Guys first LP except for All I Need Is You of course but Guy wanted to get the manufactured stuff out the way and bring his own stuff out but to my disapointment it hasnt been a sucess like his first when it should of been, only due to lack of promotion.

There is no doubt that Anthony has a great talent and has been paying his dues and working hard for this recognition for a long time! When he chose to sing "The Prayer" in the AI2 comp, he took a risk and it paid off! Good on him! Cover or no cover, not everybody can pull off singing that kind of song on a pop comp. Our Australian artists deserve all the support that they get. I think its awesome that so many Australian artists now grace the Aria charts. I think if the promotion was a little better, we'd have even more at the top for a longer time!
